Mark Allen Mertens, 67, of Wausau, formerly of Medford, died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2025 at PAM Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Wausau after complications with diabetes. He was born Aug. 13, 1958 in Marshfield to Henry “Hank” and Patricia (Lauer) Mertens. When Mark was 10 years old, the family moved to Medford and Mark graduated from Medford High School in 1976. He earned an associate’s degree in accounting from North Central Technical College and spent most of his career as an accountant. He was currently employed at Aspirus Hospital in Wausau.

On Dec. 26, 2019, Mark married Linda Miller in Medford.

Mark will always be remembered for his love of music. While in high school, he worked as a D.J. at Uncle Milty’s, helping make it a popular hang-out among local youth thanks to his talent. Mark continued to know and love to listen to all kinds of music whether it was on his many road trips with Linda to the “Big Water” of Lake Superior in Ashland, or just relaxing with the

radio on.

He will be dearly missed by his wife, Linda Mertens, of Wausau; and her children, Stephanie Schgier, of Philadelphia, Pa. and Ryan Schgier, of Lancaster, Pa.; his mother, Patricia Mertens, of Medford; three sisters, Ann Marie (Duke) Hartmann, of Prentice, Kathleen (Ken) Wegerer, of Rib Lake, Kimberly Mertens, of Eau Claire; nieces and nephews, Maggie (Erik) Westberg, Ben (Jess) Hartmann, Max (Lydia) Hartmann, Sam Hartmann, Travis Wegerer, Teri Wegerer; greatnephews and niece, Dawson, Lela, Reese and Beau; and his best friend through life, Mark Dobeck.

He was preceded in death by his father, Hank. A memorial mass will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Sept. 29, 2025 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church with Fr. Patrick McConnell officiating. Mark will be laid to rest next to his father at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery following the service.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m., Monday, at the church.
