David Strasser

David John Strasser, 60, Town of Bergen, passed away peacefully at home in the early hours of January 24, after a long battle with ALS. David fought his battle with ALS with a positive outlook, making everyone smile while riding his tricked-out lighted wheelchair. He would not let the disease get him down and fought it with his faith, courage, and strength to the end.

David grew up on the Strasser family dairy farm in Emmet Township. David attended and graduated from Mosinee High School.

David worked as help on several rural Mosinee farms in the first few years after high school. On one such farm, he met his future wife, Beverly. David and Beverly dairy farmed in tandem with Beverly’s parents (William and Willowene Kasten) for the next several years. After Beverly’s parents sold their dairy cows, David and Beverly bought their own dairy herd and farmed for a few years and then switched to raising beef cattle.

Deciding on a career change, David attended Diesel Driving School in Sun Prairie. After graduating, he was hired as an over-the-road truck driver for W.H. Transportation of Rothschild, and later for Kufahl Transport of Marathon. While working at Kufahl, David suffered a health problem and his boss, Brian Kufahl, exhibited a generosity of spirit that was almost biblical.

David had a love for farming and country life and savored the beautiful countryside that he saw while driving and the interesting people that he met on the road, some of whom became his friends.

David’s last professional driving employment was with Marathon Cheese Transport, for whom he worked for eight years. In 2017 and 2020, he was recognized by Marathon Cheese Transport as their Professional Driver of the Year. David loved his job at Marathon Cheese and all his driving buddies. David always brought a smile to everyone he met and was a friend to everyone.

The family thanks everyone at Marathon Cheese for their special get togethers for David. It meant the world to him and Beverly. We also want to thank our wonderful family, friends, neighbors, church family and the ALS support groups, management teams and the UW Clinic in Madison who helped guide David and family on this journey. With all this backing, David’s difficult passage to the end was handled with grace and dignity!

Survivors, besides his wife Beverly, include his siblings: Larry (Marie) Strasser, Wausau, Sue (Mike) Hytry, Mosinee, Gerald Strasser, Mosinee, and Dan (Sharon) Strasser, Mosinee, as well as many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service took place at noon on Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2024, at Beste Funeral Home, Mosinee. The Minister Jim Hellrod presided. Visitation was from 9 a.m. until the time of service, all at the funeral home. Online condolences can be directed to www.bestefh.com.
