Gail L. Gruneberg, 88 of Medford, passed away peacefully at her home, Aspirus Country Gardens Assisted Living, on Thursday, Jan. 18, 2024. A memorial service for Gail will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2024 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford with Fr. Patrick McConnell officiating. Due to church renovations, please enter through the school doors on Washington Ave. Burial will take place at Medford Evergreen Cemetery at a later date.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Gail was born on Oct. 16, 1935 in Crandon, the daughter of Edward and Frances (Stengel) Gravitter. She attended Crandon grade school and later graduated from Wausau High School. She continued her education by earning a Bachelor’s Degree at Marquette University in Business/Teaching.

While teaching in Medford, Gail met Ronald Gruneberg and was united in marriage on June 13, 1959 in Wausau. She continued to teach high school business classes in the Medford, Rib Lake, and Abbotsford school districts up to retirement.

Gail was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford and was involved in various church activities. She had a special love for animals and volunteered for many years at the Taylor County Humane Society. She was a charter member for the Memorial Health Center Volunteers. She spent many hours in the original Gift Shop and other areas needing volunteer assistance.

Gail loved the outdoors and was always on the go during her earlier years. She enjoyed downhill skiing, ice skating, curling, golfing, tennis, camping, traveling and attending high school athletic events. Later she valued playing cards with family and friends, cabin time on Connors Lake with family and walking the family Labrador Retrievers.

Gail is survived by their three children, Kim (Mike) Poncek of Medford, Pat (Terri) Gruneberg of Apple Valley, Minn. and Brad (Holly) Gruneberg of Sheboygan; grandchildren, Eric, Kyle and Morgan; and two great-grandchildren.

Gail was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ron in 2010; and siblings John Gravitter, and Mona Vokes.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Gail’s name may be given to Holy Rosary School, Taylor County Humane Society or Hope Hospice of Medford.
