Irving Syryczuk
Irving Syryczuk of Medford, died peacefully at his home, Aspirus Country Gardens Assisted Living, on Monday, Jan. 15 at the age of 92. A funeral mass will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2024 at St Mary’s Polish National Catholic Church in Lublin with Father Marion Talaga officiating. Burial will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will take place at St Mary’s Polish National Catholic Church in Lublin from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Military rites will be performed at St. Mary’s Cemetery by the Thorp American Legion.
Irving was born Aug. 11, 1931 to parents Andrew and Anna Syryczuk and lived most of his life in Taylor County. He attended Gilman High School, served in the U.S. Air Force as a helicopter mechanic, and ran a successful logging business. He enjoyed a prosperous career and a long and happy retirement. a member of the American Legion, Saint Mary’s Polish National Church, and was actively involved in the community.
He is survived by daughter, Kim Bernklau; his dear friend and son-in-law, Bob Bernklau (Medford), and daughter, Kandie Alter and son-in-law, Joe Alter (Chicago, Ill.); along with three grandchildren for whom he was immensely proud of, including Max Bernklau (Medford), Paige Werling and husband Brandon Werling (Anchorage, Alaska), and Jerry Alter (Chicago, Ill.).
He was preceded in death by his parents, Anna and Andrew; brothers, Donald and John Syryczuk; sisters, Virginia Ustianowski and Lorraine Flodin; former wife, Joann Fleischmann; and son, Brian Kudasik.
Most everyone will remember Irving as a lover of good food, good friends, and good stories. He was an avid outdoorsman, a competitive card and cribbage player, was a life-long Green Bay Packers fan, and loved his family deeply. He was generous and kind, and will be missed by all who loved him.
