1925-2022

George Marvin Cleveland, Sr., 96, passed away from coronary complications on Feb. 12, 2022, at the William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital in Madison. George was born in Mayville, N.D. on Sept. 20, 1925. He was a World War II veteran, where he fought in the campaigns of North Africa, Sicily, and Italy. He lived much of his life in the Owen-Withee area, where he was employed in various positions as a skilled welder and machinist. In recent years, he lived in Madison with his daughter.

A graveside inurnment service with military honors will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 28 at East Primrose Cemetery, 8906 Ridge Drive, Belleville. Pastor John Twiton of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Mt. Horeb will officiate. A reception will follow at 2:30 at the Lingonberry Llama, 103 W. Main Street, Belleville.

George is survived by his children, Cindy (Donald) Griffiths, George Jr. (Jacalyn), Kevin, Sandy, and Jonathan (Scarlet); four grandchildren; four greatgrandchildren and his brother, Jim (Gayle) Cleveland.

George was preceded in death by his parents, Nels and Valborg; his wife, Shirley; daughter, Melissa; and sister, Verna Bell.
