Erma A. Becker, age 96, of Wausau, formerly of Athens, passed away on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, at Marshfield Medical Center in Weston, with her family by her side.

A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Athens. Pastor Mark Schwalenberg presided. Family and friends were welcomed from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday, April 26. Interment followed at the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Live stream was available for those that were unable to attend on the Trinity Lutheran Church, Athens, Facebook page.

Erma was born on March 17, 1926, the daughter of William and Ida (Kretlow) Tolk, in the township of Rib Falls. Erma was united in marriage to Alfred Becker on November 1, 1947, in Marathon Co. For most of her life Erma farmed with her husband; together raising five children. She began her career as a beautician and later was a seamstress and laundry aid at Wausau Hospital.

Erma was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Athens, where she belonged to the Ladies Aid and taught Sunday School. After moving to Wausau she joined St. Mark’s Lutheran Church and participated in the Ladies Guild and Bible classes. Other memberships included Marathon County Extension Club and Pommerscher Verein of Central Wisconsin (a German Club). Erma’s favorite pastimes were sewing, gardening and reading the daily newspaper. Most importantly, she cherished spending time with her family and friends including her Brown Street neighbors.

Erma is survived by her five children: Archie (Sue) Becker, Paula (Jeff) Cooper, Helen Becker, Arnee (Lori) Becker and Dan (Jane) Becker; seven grandchildren: Jennifer (Perry) Werner, Jaclyn (Jordan) Beran, Brian (friend Lacey) Becker, Alyssa (Dakota) Millard, Abrielle (Daniel) Tiffany, Alice (Joe) Failoni-Todoran and Robert Allen; and six great-grandchildren: Cameron Widdel, Erika Allen, Rebecca Werner, Kodi Werner, Cashten Beran and Sawyer Beran. She is further survived by a sister-in-law, Avila Tolk; along with many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred; and four siblings: Lillian (Art) Gall, Clarence (Ethelyn), Ervin (Avila) and Walter (Betty) and brother-inlaw, Emil (Mary Lee) Becker.
