Our little firecracker came into this world on July 4, 1924, born to Anton and Mamie (Seidelman) Wieting at home in Neillsville and was baptized on November 16, 1924. She attended Hillside Elementary and Neillsville High School, graduating in 1932. She later married Frederick Schoenherr which resulted in the birth of six children: Ted (Jeanette) Schoenherr of Stratford, Carol (Jay) Dalton of Stratford, Diana (Don) Chrudimsky of Texas, Terry (Charlotte) Schoenherr of Stratford, Tommy (Nancy) Schoenherr of Stratford and Fred (Tina) Schoenherr of Colorado. They later divorced.

Leona worked for Ulrich Turkey Farms for 13 years, providing many with their Thanksgiving turkey, and later worked in housekeeping at St. Joseph Hospital in Marshfield. On April 12, 1980, she was united in marriage to Ralph Fischer and the couple resided in Spencer. After his death in 2012, she moved back to the Stratford to be closer to her children.

Leona had a strong faith and instilled that into her children and grandchildren. At the time of her death she was the oldest member at Zion Lutheran Church and was in “her pew” almost every Sunday morning. She enjoyed gardening, traveling, fishing, collecting salt & pepper shakers and later paint-by number. Leona was a lifetime member of the Stratford VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

Besides five of her children, Leona is survived by 10 grandchildren (all serving as her pallbearers): Michele, Scott, Kim, Carmella, Todd, Tim, Tadd, Mark, Hannah and Zach; 16 great-grandchildren and two great-greatgrandsons. She is also survived by five stepchildren and numerous step grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Besides her husbands and parents, Leona was predeceased by her son, Ted;, son-in-law, Don; two grandsons: Daniel and Ron; two brothers and two sisters.

Memorials can be given in Leona’s name to her two favorite places, Zion Lutheran Church in Stratford and The Children’s Miracle Network.

Sauter/Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. The family would like to thank the caregivers at Country Terrace/VitaCare Assisted Living in Stratford and Moments Hospice for the compassionate care Mom received. She always said, “I really like it here.”
