Genevieve Larsen Genevieve Larsen

Genevieve Louise Larsen, 96, of Edgar, passed away peacefully with her daughter at her side on Saturday, Jan. 15, 2022, in the Town of Norrie.

Genevieve was born in Houston, Texas, on Sept. 20, 1925, to Marriam and Dora “Gladys” (Conwell) Gilmour. She graduated from Davenport High School in Iowa. On Feb. 6, 1949, she was united in marriage to Albert Larsen in Davenport. Together, they farmed in Lime Springs for fourteen years, later relocating and purchasing a dairy farm in Edgar. They continued farming there until their retirement in 1989 and shared sixty-four years united in marriage before Albert passed away in 2013.

A true conversationalist, Genevieve never lacked something to say. She enjoyed volunteering at Edgar Elementary School and liked to keep her loved ones well fed. Having spent their working lives farming, she and Albert seized on the opportunity to travel in retirement. They took trips to Denmark, Hawaii and Alaska, among other places.

More than anything else, Genevieve loved to show love to her family and spend time and make memories with them.

Those who will cherish her memory include her children: Judy (Tim) Ranke of Birnamwood, Marilyn Larsen of Hudson, Harry (Peggy) Larsen of Forest Lake, Minn., Carla (Walter) Wiese of Stetsonville and Dawn (Kevin) Durr of Edgar; her ten grandchildren: Corey (Kristen) Larsen, Kelli Jo (Shane) Jewison, Erica Larsen, Casey Larsen, Kyle Wiese, Brittany Scott, Amber Wiese, Tyler (Monica) Durr, Shawna Wiese and McKenzie Durr; her great-grandchildren: Kayla and Carter Larsen, Madden and McCoy Jewison, Amara Hart and Kinsley Wiese; many other relatives and friends she made throughout her long life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Marriam and Dora “Gladys” Gilmour; her husband, Albert; and her brother, Robert Gilmour.

Judy’s siblings would like to express their deep gratitude to Judy for taking such great care of Mom and making her comfortable in her final years. The family would also like to extend its heartfelt thanks to Barb Block for her assistance in this endeavor.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 21, 2022, at Rib Falls Methodist Church in Marathon City with Pastor Tim Gurlea presiding. For the safety of everyone involved, we kindly ask that everybody wear a mask. Following the service, Genevieve and Albert will be laid to rest together in the church cemetery. Family and friends are invited to gather at the church on Friday from noon until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being set up in Genevieve’s name. Genevieve’s arrangements are under the care of Life Tributes Funeral Home-Spencer. Please visit www.lifetributesfuneralhome.com to share thoughts and condolences.
