Allen Eugene Scheithauer
1944-2021
Allen Eugene Scheithauer, 77, of Rib Lake died on Veterans Day, Thursday, Nov. 11, 2021, while surrounded by his loving family at Aspirus Hospital in Medford, just 18 days after his wife Linda passed. pitch softball and fast pitch softball (all men’s leagues). He played on the Interwald baseball team and loved the Brewers. He was an avid Packer fan, enjoyed NASCAR, boxing, and even boxed while in the military. Allen also enjoyed gardening and canning vegetables. For many years they had three large gardens and shared their vegetables with everyone. His late wife, Linda, once noted that Allen would have rated up there with the master gardeners. Linda added that Allen was also a self-taught electrician. He worked on small electrical projects and did most of the plumbing in their home. Allen also built his own wood splitter that he often lent to family and friends. Both Allen and Linda enjoyed feeding and watching the hummingbirds by their home.
Allen loved to laugh and had a great sense of humor. One of his sisters stated that Allen was the “family clown”. He had a lot of fun with his friends and family and valued those memories. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
He is survived by his five children, Michele (David) Dahl of Medford, Lisa (Shannon Halopka) Scheithauer of Medford, Jeff Scheithauer of Rib Lake, Kim (Mike) Schlais of Cadott, and Kari (Eric) Napier of Fort Wayne, Ind.; brothers, Herbert (Ruth) Scheithauer and Dennis (Cathy) Scheithauer, all of Rib Lake; sisters, Alice Smola of Rib Lake, Barb Steinman of Fond du Lac; sisters-in-law, Delores and Laverne Scheithauer of Medford; grandchildren, Brett (Trudy Grussinger) Dohrwardt, Wyatt Dohrwardt, Dakota (Carlie Rau) Dahl, Corissa (Dakota Zimmermann) Scheithauer, Casey Scheithauer, Rhonnie Jo Scheithauer, Mason Svee, Layla Schlais, Annika Wright, Jaxon Napier; great-grandchildren, Everly Flatland and Adahlei Zimmermann; and many nieces and nephews.
Allen was preceded in death by his parents; wife; infant son, Bryan; sisters, Bernadine Brahmer, Durana Dentz, Vera Hoffman; sisters-in-law, Marcy, Gerri, and Elizabeth Scheithauer; brothers, Joseph, Marvin, Robert, and Kenneth Scheithauer; brothersin- law, Jim Smola, Lavern Hoffman, and Chester A funeral service was held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2021 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, N5868 County Rd. C, town of Greenwood, Rib Lake. Military honors by the United States Marine Corps and the Medford Area Military Honors Team followed. Burial was in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation was from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.
He was born on Sept. 19, 1944, in Medford to Marcella (Jarchow) and Joseph Scheithauer. He attended the Rib Lake Area Schools. His first job was working for Earl Wager doing masonry work. He then went to work in Milwaukee, building bridges. On Sept. 11, 1965, he married Linda Bleck in Rib Lake. Linda gave birth to their first child, Bryan Lee Scheithauer, who was born prematurely and sadly passed away just hours after birth. Allen was then drafted into the military, and the couple moved back to Rib Lake. Allen entered the Marine Corps Jan. 3, 1966, and was sent to Vietnam in June of 1966 as a machine gunner in Vietnam, fighting on the frontlines. Allen received a shrapnel wound on April 7, 1967 while on patrol against the Viet Cong in Vietnam. He was treated at DaNang field hospital and transferred to the hospital at Great Lakes, Ill. He spent three months in the hospital but could come home on the weekends. Allen was then stationed at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina as a Military Police Officer. Corporal Scheithauer’s service ended in January of 1968 and he was awarded a purple heart for his injury. Shortly thereafter, Allen began working at Great Northern Cabinetry driving truck. He then worked for Blount Inc. in Prentice, working there for 37+ years as a welder, welding end loaders and other logging equipment.
