Michael Lee Kinas

1948-2021

Michael Lee Kinas, 72, of Gilman passed away peacefully Sunday, Jan. 31, 2021 surrounded by his loving family at Aspirus Medford Hospital. A celebration of life will be held at 11:30 a.m. at the Miller Dam Pavilion on Saturday, June 12. He will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery.

He was born Dec. 6, 1948 in Milwaukee. Michael was the son of the late Joseph and Vernice (Konsella) Kinas. Mike grew up in California and the Hannibal area. At 17 he joined the Navy. During his 23 years of service, he was awarded Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and National Defense Service Medal. He served on board the USS Virgo and the USS Navasota. He retired as a Master Chief Builder (Seabee’s).

After retiring from the Navy, he made a living as a contractor traveling around the United States. While working a job in Ohio he met his soul mate,

Vonda Deskin. They were married Mar. 21, 1992 in Greenville, Ohio. After their marriage they moved to South Carolina where they had their two children. The family later moved to Wisconsin in 1994.

After returning to Wisconsin Mike worked at Chippewa Valley Satellite. He was also a volunteer firefighter for the Village of Gilman and an EMT for Taylor County until the time of his retirement.

Mike enjoyed making beautiful woodwork in his shop. Every chance he had he would be out on Miller Dam fishing with his son, daughter, and granddaughter, Charlotte Mae.

He is survived by his wife, Vonda Kinas of Gilman; daughter, Samantha Kinas of Jacksonville, Fla.; son, Austin (Shana) Kinas of Willard; granddaughter, Charlotte Mae Kinas; honorary son, Mitchell O’Malley of Perrysburg, Ohio; and siblings, Bob Kinas of Jacksonville, Fla.; Patti (Gary) Nichols of Deer Park; Gary (Marcy) Kinas of El Paso, Texas, Jim (Deb) Kinas of Giddings, Texas, Kelly (Fred) Emstrom of Medford, and Lisa Anderson of Gilman; God son, Dalton Wisocky; and many in-laws; aunts; uncles; nephews; nieces; and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather; and best friend, Chuck Anderson.
