Patricia DeChatelets Patricia DeChatelets

1937-2021

Patricia DeChatelets, 84, passed away on May 6, 2021. She was born in Chicago, Ill. on Jan. 27, 1937 to the late Joseph and Dorothy (Grothman) LaCapro and graduated from Mundeline High School in Chicago, Ill. Visitation was held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, May 13 at Brettschneider Trettin-Nickel Funeral Chapel, 606 N. Oneida St., Appleton with a prayer service at 4 p.m. A private burial took place at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery on Friday, May 14.

On Sept. 27, 1958 she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Ronald DeChatelets and they were married 48 years until his death on Mar. 17, 2006. They moved to Medford in 1969 to raise their five children and became the owners of the Kramer Motel. Pat received her associates degree in Business from UW Stevens Point and worked in the school district for many years tutoring children and as an administrative assistant. She was also a licensed real estate agent.

Pat served on the Medford School Board and later was on the Medford City Council from 2006-2015. She was a hospice volunteer and used her compassion and kind heart to be a friend to others in need after she moved to Appleton in 2016 to be closer to her daughters.

Her pets over the years gave her great pleasure and she enjoyed casinos, bingo, traveling, cooking big meals and family celebrations. Many called her “fiercely independent,” with a unique knack for being extremely resourceful and creative. Her unyielding optimism and beautiful smile will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her children, Renee (Doug) Waterman, Appleton, Laura DeChatelets, (special friend, Pat), Neenah, Joseph (Famie) DeChatelets, Mobile, Ala., Denise (Scott) Blair, Seymour, Jeanette DeChatelets (special friend, Brian), Ripon; 14 grandchildren, Jim, Daniel (Emilee), Jonathon, Brad (Kim), Stephanie, Lindsey, LaToya, Dylan, Megan, Ryan, Jackie, Brock, Cassie and Jordan; and seven great-grandchildren, Jayden, Joey, Cadence, Christian, Emma, Molly and Drake.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Ronald.

A heartfelt thanks to all the extraordinary staff at Brewster Village and Amedisys Hospice, especially Kayla, for your tender care of our mom and helping us during this difficult time. When we couldn’t be there in-person, our hearts rested easier knowing you were at her side.
