1939-2020

Duane Scott, 80, of Westboro, passed away at his home on Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2020, surrounded by his family. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Feb. 8 at 11 a.m. at the Ogema Baptist Church. Pastor Don Rhody will be officiating. Visitation will take place at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Duane was born on July 10, 1939 in Westboro to Elmer and Emma (Peterson) Scott. He married Jean E. Hanson on July 20, 1957 and she survives. Duane displayed an exceptional work ethic his entire life. He worked for Tombstone Pizza, Taylor County, town of Westboro and Sanitary District. He had multiple other jobs including road construction, logging, working at a cheese factory and sawmill. Additionally, he never strayed from his love of logging and making thousands of cords of firewood. Duane enjoyed making lawns, spreading gravel, lawn mowing, snow removal, campfires, baking, eating sweets and ice cream. He loved singing and listening to country and gospel music (Gaither’s). He loved his pets - cat, Buddy and dog, Josie. Duane greatly loved spending time with his family and attending the numerous gatherings and activities. Duane’s faith in Jesus Christ was very important to him and he talked about “the good Lord” daily.

In addition to his wife, Duane is survived by his children and grandchildren, Steven Scott (Caley and Alec), Julie Scott (Jordan and Stephanie), Cathy and Jeff Shaw (Zachary, Clayton, Lindsey, Michayla and Taylor), David and Sharon Scott (Jamie, Jessica, Jennifer, Bridgett, Madeline and Jeremy) and Greg and Katie Scott (Tarek, Kylee, Kaylee, Kinley and Treyden); 24 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Liz Johnson of Gilbert, Ariz. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends.

Duane was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Steven; and siblings, Janelle Burke, Mildred Kestler, Robert Scott and infant sister.
