Raymond “Ray” A. Brandner, 93, of Medford, passed away on Friday, Jan. 3, 2020 at Aspirus Medford Hospital, emergency room, with his sister and niece by his side. A funeral mass will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 11 at OLPH Catholic Church in Whittlesey with military rites performed by the Medford Area Military Honors Team. Father Patrick McConnell will officiate. Visitation will be held on Saturday at the church from 12 noon until the time of services. Interment of his cremated remains will take place at OLPH Catholic Cemetery in Whittlesey.

Ray was born on May 14, 1926 in the township of Chelsea to the late Kunigunda (Linsner) and Carl Brandner Sr. He attended Whittlesey Grade School in the town of Chelsea and Westboro High School. Ray never married. After his education he worked as a merchant seaman. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. After the war, he again worked as a merchant seaman for 37 plus years until retirement. In retirement he resided in Milwaukee until moving to Medford in 2002. He enjoyed fast old cars. He was a member OLPH Catholic Church in Whittlesey.

Ray is survived by a sister, Rosemary (Bob) Werner of Medford; brother, Rock Brandner of Richfield; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his brothers, Carl Jr., John, Herb, Roman and Ralph Brandner; and sisters, Catherine Lamberty, Thecla Oestreich, Anne Packenham and Ida Scott.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorial contributions be given to OLPH Catholic Church, Whittlesey in Raymond’s name.
