David “Dave” J. Kummer Sr., 70, of Medford, passed away on Friday, Dec. 27, 2019 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital, where he was a patient for the past 10 days. A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 31 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford with Father Patrick McConnell and Deacon Joe Stefancin officiating. Visitation was held on Monday, Dec. 30 at Hemer Funeral Home in Medford from 4 p.m. until the time of a rosary service at 7 p.m. Visitation continued at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Tuesday. Interment was held at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery in Medford. Honorary pallbearers were Nicole Kummer, Serenity Lynch, Mariah Wendland, John Maki and Parker Ulrich. Active pallbearers were his grandchildren, Cody and Lakyn Kummer and Brett, Koltin, Trey and Lucas Ulrich.

Dave was born on March 21, 1949 in Medford to the late Florence (Anderson) and Joseph Kummer. He attended Brookside Elementary School and Medford High School. On April 12, 1969 he married Susan N. Gauerke at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Athens. After his education, he worked at Doberstein Saw Mill and later Weather Shield Mfg. in Medford for 44 years, retiring in 2015. He enjoyed fishing, campfires, grilling and spending time with his family and friends. Dave was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford.

Dave is survived by his wife, Susan “Sue” Kummer of Medford; children, David “Butch” Kummer Jr. and Cindy (Lonnie) Ulrich, all of Medford; six grandchildren, Cody (Nicole) Kummer, Brett (Serenity) Ulrich, Koltin (Mariah) Ulrich, Lakyn (John) Kummer, Trey Ulrich and Lucas Ulrich; one great-grandchild, Parker Ulrich; and sister, JoAnn Maier of Dorchester. Dave is further survived by nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Kristine J. Kummer in 2017; and a brother in infancy.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be given to the family for a future designation.
