Jean Marie Anderson, 78, of Jasper, Ala., passed away on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2019 at home. Family received friends on Monday, Nov. 25 at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Jasper, Ala. Burial was held at Cold Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Bremen, Ala. with Rev. Robin Hinkle officiating. Jean was born on April 7, 1941 in Westboro to Lester and Lorraine Peterson. She graduated from Westboro High School in 1959. Jean and her twin sister, Joan, moved to Chicago, Ill. She married Charles Anderson and they moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, where she worked for the Cincinnati Enquirer. After her divorce, Jean moved back to Westboro, where she worked at Tombstone Pizza and The Star News. In 1998, she moved to Jasper, Ala. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary for 43 years and a member of the First Lutheran Church in Westboro and St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Jasper. Jean helped raise her grandchildren, Kennen and Kendra, as well as work in her daughter’s store, Handley’s Western Wear. They took many trips to Westboro to visit relatives. She also enjoyed trips to the casino and playing pinochle games. She embroidered and quilted many beautiful baby quilts.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sister, Carol; and her brother, Thomas.

She is survived by her son, Charles Anderson; daughter, Deborah (Mike) Tittle of Jasper, Ala; sisters, Doredda (Leroy) Olson of Chelsea, Joan (Roy) Plemmons of Cumming, Ga., Myrtha Justice, Mary(Greg)WagenknechtandCandy(Dan)Zutavern; brothers, Edward (Joyce) Peterson of Westboro and Richard Peterson of Ogema; grandchildren, Julie Dennis, Kendra (Trey) Burg and Kennen Kimbrell; great-grandchildren, Arianna and J.C. Burg; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions can be made to First Lutheran Church of Westboro and St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Jasper.
