Gerald “Jerry” S. Hoffman Sr., 81, of Athens, died on Sunday, Nov. 17, 2019 at his residence in the township of Johnson, Marathon County. Per his request, there will be no public services. Interment of his cremated remains will take place at Hillside Cemetery in Marshfield at a later date. Jerry was born on Jan. 29, 1938 in Livingston County, Mich., the son of George and Mildred (Jones) Hoffman. He attended Fenton, Mich. elementary schools and was a graduate of Fenton High School. His marriage to Onalee K. Hill took place on June 16, 1956, also at Fenton, Mich. After marriage, they farmed in Michigan until moving to Unity to farm in 1975. In 1988 they moved to Milan and farmed there until retirement. He also bred and traded horses and mules and bought and sold farm equipment over the years. He served on the Brighton Town Board, Marathon County Fair and County Boards for periods of time. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, playing cards and spending time with family and friends.

Surviving Jerry are his wife, Onalee of Athens; children, Howard (Debra) Hoffman of Marshfield, Sarah (Randy) Gregory of Spencer, Lynn (Richard) Hamland of Medford, Gerald “Jay” (Linda) Hoffman Jr. of New London and Richard (Denise) Hoffman of West Allis. He is also survived by a son-in-law, Kurt von Besser of Hewitt; 26 grandchildren; 33 greatgrandchildren; brothers, Garry Hoffman and Glenn (Louise) Hoffman, all of Florida and Greg (Lois) Hoffman of Chippewa Falls; and a brother-in-law, Roger Bass of South Carolina.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Gerriann von Besser in 2009; a sister, Louetta Bass; and a brother, George Hoffman Jr.
