Matthew “Matt” A. Timmers, 83, of Medford, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2019 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital, where he had been a patient for the past four days. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 11 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford, where there were military rites performed by the Medford Area Military Honors Team. Father Patrick Mc-Connell officiated the service. Interment was held at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery in Medford. Visitation was held at Hemer Funeral Home, Medford from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 10, where there was a 7 p.m. Catholic rosary service. Visitation continued at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday. Pallbearers were his grandsons, Dan Jr. and Dustin Robinson, Jesse Hilgart, Jared and Tyler Nelson, and Justin, Ryan, Jacob and Blake Timmers.

Matt was born on March 29, 1936 in Kennan to the late Mathias and Florence (Jansen) Timmers. He attended Four Corners Elementary School in Catawba and was a 1954 graduate of Phillips High School. On May 28, 1960, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Catawba, he married Diana Rose Makovsky and she survives. Matt was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from 1955-1957 in Korea. After the military, he worked in Milwaukee for John Mauer Roofing of Marshfield. In 1959, he moved to Kennan and farmed. While farming, he worked at Norco Windows in Hawkins and for 31 years at Blount in Prentice until retirement. In 1997 they moved to Medford where he worked at Circle of Faith and built utility sheds. He enjoyed raising beef and spending time with his family was his life. Matt was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and the Catholic Knights of Columbus.

In addition to his wife, Matt is survived by his children, Deborah (Dan) Robinson of Spread Eagle, Todd (Lori) Timmers of Phillips, Deanna (Scott) Hilgart of Park Falls and Donald (Heather) Timmers of Medford; son-in-law, John Nelson of Phillips; 14 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; siblings, Clifford Timmers of Kennan; Patricia (Ed) Dowden of Owen, Marion (Tony) Groothousen of Tony, Mildred Kennedy of Delafield, Janet (Bill) Griglak of Ladysmith and Lorraine (David) Baratka of Phillips; and brother- in-law, Ron Runnheim of Kennan In addition to his parents, Matt was preceded in death by a daughter, Tamara Nelson, in 2012; sister, Florence Runnheim; sister-in-law, Rosalie Timmers; and brother-in-law, Adrian Kennedy In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be given to Holy Rosary School, Medford.
