Heerde’s Cheese House, half a block past the Yellow River Bridge in Cadott, opens its doors. The shop offers speciality trays and gift boxes, featuring Wisconsin cheese.
20 Years Ago – 2000
Robin Couillard opens Lake Holcombe Floral, Bridal and Gifts, at the Meadow Creek Mall. The shop sells not only flowers and plants for all occasions, but also has bridal gowns and tuxedo rentals.
30 Years Ago – 1990
Amy Ramseier, Cadott American Legion Auxiliary Badger State Girls representative, is elected as the ballot clerk and public works director at the week-long event. The program teaches young adults how to conduct business in city and state levels of government.
40 Years Ago – 1980
The Clarence Nelson home in Cornell, becomes a casualty of a twister that passes through the area, losing a new addition of a family room and an attached two-car garage. No one was injured in the severe weather, but it was noted that warning sirens never sounded.
50 Years Ago – 1970
Cadott Lions Club president Errol Huhn announces the club was at the top in the district for recruiting efforts and brought in the most new members. For their efforts, the club will be honored at a Milwaukee-New York baseball game this summer, and receive a stuffed lion.
60 Years Ago – 1960
Because of a 5-ton restriction placed on the onelane Brunet Island State Park bridge in Cornell, a new structure will need to be built over the Chippewa River this winter. The new bridge will be 19 feet wide, with a double lane.
100 Years Ago – 1920
The J. A. Roberts Store in Cornell, advertises bargains, such as overalls for $2.75, chambray shirts for $1.35 and khaki pants for $2. The variety store also has Cream of Wheat for 26 cents and coffee for 46 cents, with a reduction on everything except fresh fruit.
