Dee was born on May 18, 1948, to Willard and Mary (Krizan) Mau in Des Plaines, Ill. She graduated from Flambeau High School and earned her teaching degree from Concordia University in St. Paul, Minn. On June 5, 1971, she was united in marriage to Allen Guthman at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sheldon.
Dee’s faith in Christ was the foundation of her life. She not only professed it but lived it daily, shining His light to everyone she met. With deep and unshakable joy, she trusted in God’s promises and faced life — and death — without fear. She rested in the hope of eternity with her Savior, Jesus Christ.
Dee devoted her life to teaching, sharing her love of learning and the love of Jesus with hundreds of children in Weyerhaeuser, Owen-Withee, and at Zion Lutheran Preschool in Colby, where she spent the majority of her career. She was a faithful and active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday school and vacation Bible school, led Bible studies, and served on various boards and committees.
Dee enjoyed playing golf, bowling, card games, and tending to her flowers. Dee and Al traveled throughout the United States, including trips to Hawaii and Alaska. They especially cherished their trips to Gulf Shores, Ala., celebrating their 50th and 53rd wedding anniversaries with their family. Dee held a special place in her heart for her grandchildren and loved every moment spent laughing and making memories together.
Dee is survived by her husband of 54 years, Allen; three children: Diana (Jason) Stephens of Brenham, Texas; Alison (Steve) Schley of Loyal; and Heidi (Mike) Schiszik of Elk Mound; eight grandchildren: Madeline Stephens of Houston, Texas; Mitchell and Maja Stephens of Brenham, Texas; Savannah Schley of Sun Prairie; McKenna and Annika Schley of Loyal; and Ellie and Dru Schiszik of Elk Mound. She is further survived by her brother, Delmer (Jacqie) Mau; her sister, Dorothy (Dick) Keiser; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her infant daughter; her sister, Darlene; and her brother-in-law, Dennis Plemon.
