Pirates’ offense gets rolling, doubles up Falcons for first win
MATT FREY/THE STAR NEWS On Thursday at the Simek Recreation Center, Medford youth hockey players and coaches showed their support for 10-year-old Reed Roiger, one of their own who is currently battling T-cell leukemia. To “ Rally For Reed,” some of the players and coaches chose to shave their head to stand beside their teammate. The group then took a team photo on the team bench between periods of the varsity hockey team’s scrimmage with Chequamegon.

It took a little while, but once the Gilman Pirates got going Thursday, the Flambeau Falcons were powerless in trying to stop them in a 62-31 non-conference blowout on Gilman’s home floor.
