Some safety concerns are brought up over the historic Cornell stacker, prompting the city to seriously think of spending some money for repairs. It’s agreed to look for estimates on what it costs to fix the cracked concrete base and some loose-hanging fixtures near the top of the structure.

20 Years Ago – 2005 Imagine spending three weeks in the United Kingdom, touring Scotland, learning about culture and important pieces in history. Well, that just what Tim Burns and Erin Greene, of Cadott, did this summer, as part of UW-Stout’s excursion to that country.

30 Years Ago – 1995 Cornell’s High School finally has a front entrance, with the commons area at last ready for students to use to gain access to the building. The commons area is home to a spacious lunch room, which can also be used as a study hall.

40 Years Ago – 1985 A bull moose, first sighted in Bruce, by Bill and Dottie Stees, on their way home from work, makes its way to Boyd, after being spotted near Ladysmith, Sheldon and Ruby. There are speculations that more lone moose could be on the loose, but as of yet, none have appeared.

50 Years Ago – 1975 Roger and Sharon Adolfson open Holcombe’s newest business, Sight and Sound Electronics, as that venture seemed to be the one thing that the town really needed. The Adolfsons’ store is located directly across the street from the post office.

60 Years Ago – 1965 Cadott’s 9 p.m. curfew will be strictly enforced, between Oct. 28 and Nov. 4, according to Officer Archie Lange. The enforcement is a traditional step taken at the Halloween season each year, in hopes to curtail mischief.

100 Years Ago – 1925 Joseph Barlow, Cobban, shoots a 200-pound bear, with a shotgun, after spotting the animal one afternoon, with four cubs, in a field near his home, as well as wounding two of the cubs. This is the first bruin to be killed in Chippewa County this season.
