New Greenwood sign welcomes visitors and city residents

After nearly two years of planning and fundraising, the much-anticipated project to replace the “Welcome to Greenwood” signs is complete. The Greenwood Main Street Committee was aware of the deterioration of the current signs for many years and was doing their best to repair and maintain them within their budget. It became obvious that it was no longer practical to repair the signs.
In August 2023, the committee voted to replace the existing signs. The committee then reached out to a committee member’s daughter, Tiara Wuethrich, for help in designing a new sign. Tiara presented six options to the group, which were voted on in October 2023, and the selection was unanimous. The challenge then was to raise the funds to support the project.
The total cost of the project was just under $59,000. The sign was designed with longevity and low maintenance in mind. Both the lighting and construction materials are under warranty, making both easily repairable should the need arise.
With initial bids coming in higher than the Main Street Committee expected, many improvisations were made along the way. But with the outstanding support of the community members and businesses, the group was able to complete the project as initially designed, as well as enhance the signs with internal lighting and finish the surrounding landscaping. The project was supported by nearly 65 donors, with major contributions from Forward Bank and Grassland Dairy, Inc. A sign is hung outside of Greenwood City Hall
recognizing all donors. Work on the project was completed by Stratford Sign, Zvolena Masonry, Beaver Creek Landscaping, and the Greenwood city crew.
The south sign was installed on June 17. The north sign was installed on July 3 due to weather and ground conditions preventing installation.
