Vox Pop - Says editorials missed facts pertinent to the issues

Vox Pop

One of the things The Star News likes to do when it writes an editorial is leave out facts pertinent to the argument it is trying to make. We have seen this with two recent editorials.

The first example of this occurred in the May 1 edition of the paper with the editorial entitled, “Milwaukee Judge’s Arrest Was About Sending A Message.” The individual whom Judge Hannah Dugan was alleged to have been assisting avoiding deportation was one Eduardo Flores-Ruiz who had already been deported during the Obama administration and had illegally returned to the U.S. Reentering the country after deportation is a felony. Mr. Flores-Ruiz was in Judge Dugan’s court facing three charges of misdemeanor battery.

The editorial went on to cite Mr. Flores-Ruiz as an undocumented immigrant, as if he was the victim of some paperwork error. Replace undocumented with illegal and now you have it right.

The editorial brought up the convenient canard about the “Rule of Law” which apparently only applies to the right and not to the left. Even the liberal Wisconsin Supreme Court found cause to suspend Judge Dugan which should speak volumes about her actions.

Our other example of conveniently missing facts is in the May 8 editorial entitled, “Government’s Shouldn’t Look at Events as Cash Cows.” I can generally agree with this as policing should include public gatherings. But what is missing from this editorial is events that have taken place that would tend to make a municipality say, “Once Bitten, Twice Shy.”

Let’s hop into the “Way Back Machine” to November 21, 2021 where one Darrell Edward Brooks, Jr. drove an SUV through an annual Christmas parade in Waukesha, Wisconsin killing six people and injuring 62 others. Mr. Brooks was out on a mere $1,000 bail two days before the attack on charges of second degree reckless endangerment with domestic abuse and disorderly conduct with domestic abuse. Mr. Brooks should NOT have been out on such a low Bail amount.

What municipality wants to leave itself open to charges that it failed to adequately protect citizens during a community event? Sadly, the misbehavior of individuals who were not properly reined in by our courts leads to the need for costly law enforcement prevention. This is why we can’t have nice things.
