Curtiss Corners Quilt Club meeting recap

Curtiss Comers Quilt Club met Monday, April 21 at 6:45 p.m. at the Curtiss Community Center. Roll call was conducted with 13 members attending.

The 2025 community service project will support the Clark County Humane Society (CCHS). Club members are sewing pet bandanas and toys which are for sale with 100% of proceeds donated to CCHS. Along with bandana sales there will be donation drop boxes to collect supplies CCHS needs. If someone is interested in purchasing a bandana or a dog or cat toy, the group can be followed on Facebook with information on sale and drop-off locations. Information may also be found at farmer’s markets around Clark County.

The club’s group project is creating a Centennial Quilt to be given to the city of Owen in August 2025 when it celebrates 100 years. Quilt blocks reflecting Owen’s logging history, railroads and Yellowstone Trail are due at the May meeting.

In this month’s demonstration, club member Becky Schmelzer showed several t-shirt quilts she finished and shared her tips for cutting into t-shirts, using woven fusible interfacing and difficulties to watch out for.

Monthly Tip on how to use leftover bobbin thread. Have an almost empty bobbin? Thread the leftover thread on a hand sewing needle and leave in a pincushion near your sewing machine for use when needed. So handy to have a needle threaded and ready to go plus this frees up the bobbin for use in a new project.

The meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m. The Curtiss Comers Quilt Club is on Facebook. Check it out for club news and mark your calendar for the 2025 Quilt show on Saturday, Aug. 2, in Curtiss.
