Rib Falls HCE
The Rib Falls HCE met Aug. 11 at the Rib Falls town hall with Diane Obermeyer hosting. Dessert and refreshments were served. The meeting was opened by President Terri Steinke with the Pledge of Allegiance and Creed.
Roll call was taken by asking a question “What’s your favorite part of summer?”
All eight members were present.
The secretaries report from Sept. 9, 2020, was read and approved, The treasurer’s report was read and approved. Pennies for Friendship were sent in.
Songs that were sung were “I’m Looking over a Four Leaf Clover” and “Moonlight Bay.”
Various places are being considered for The Craft Learning Day, set for Oct. 23. More information will be forthcoming. Each club is asked to donate a pan of bars.
Volunteers have been requested for the Trigs Brat Fry Sale which will be held Sept. 3 and 4 from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Members worked on HCE 2021 booklets for this year. The January meeting will be determined at a later date.
A state conference will be held in Stevens Point, Sept. 20-22.
Meeting was adjourned with Creed II. Debbie Hilmershausen received the hosted gift. Flower bingo was played with all receiving prizes. The club’s next meeting will be Sept. 15 at the home of Gloria Kreager.
Genealogist
Amateur historian Bob Buttke will present information on families from west Prussia that settled the townships of Stettin and Rib Falls on Saturday, Aug. 21, 1 p.m. at the Stettin Town Hall located at 141678 Stettin Drive. Buttke, a financial consultant from Thornbury, Ontario, has researched the histories of the Buttke, Erdmann, Seehafer, Beilke, Radke, Marquardt, Heise, Wilde, Traxel and Fenhaus families.
He is the author of a book, “The Martin Buttke Family--From Prussia to the Prairies.”
Admission to the event is free. Donations will be accepted. Refreshments will be served.
Fun Days
The Alois Dreikosen Post 469, Marathon, has announced it will host Fun Days over Labor Day weekend, Sept. 3-6.
The event includes a carnival, parades, nightly entertainment, community games, a five kilometer fun run, sports tournaments, a car show and a pancake breakfast.
A schedule of events is as follows:
_ Friday, Sept. 3. A children’s one kilometer fun run is set for 6 p.m. followed by a five kilometer adult run. The Music Connection will play from 7:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Fireworks are scheduled at dusk.
_ Saturday, Sept. 4. A golf tournament is planned for 7 a.m. at Pine Valley Golf Course. The Legion baseball program will hold a pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. The Marathon Fire Department will have an open house from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. A Marathon football skills competition will be held at 12 p.m. A kiddie parade is set for 1:15 p.m. Keith and McKinnley Marks will perform 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Youth awards will be presented at 6:30 p.m. Hyde will entertain 8 p.m. to midnight.
_ Sunday, Sept. 5. There will be a chicken dinner served starting at 9 a.m. A coed quads volleyball tournament is set for 9 a.m. A Legends auto show will be held 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. A parade is set for 1 p.m. on Main Street. The Hocus Polkas band will play from 2:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Community games are set for 7 p.m. Jerry Schmitt will entertain from 8 p.m. to midnight.
_ Monday, Sept. 6. An old timers slowpitch softball tournament will start at 9 a.m. A bean bag tournament will begin at 10 a.m. Grace Johanna will perform from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
School Fun Run
Marathon Venture Academy/Marathon Area Elementary School has announced it will hold a Marathon Fun Run on Friday, Sept, 3. Early registration for the race will be open on Friday, Aug. 13.
The race site will be Veterans Park, Marathon. The event will have two divisions: a one kilometer race for youngsters ages 10 and under at 6 p.m. and a five kilometer run/walk at 6:30 p.m. There will be a staggered start as a COVID-19 safety precaution.
The race will raise money for school expeditions and authentic learning opportunities.
Farmers market
A farmers market will be held the third Saturday of each month through October 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Rib Falls Town Hall. For more information, call 715-574-6691.
