In April of 2024, we were cautioned not to mow our lawns during the month of May, to protect the habitats of pollinators. Since some people began cutting their grass in mid-April, it would be more of a six-week’s affair.

Not many residents complied with the suggestion – myself included. I wouldn’t even consider the notion, until farmers cease spraying deadly chemicals, ruining our air, water, soil and the foods grown on that soil.

And while we are on the subject of poisons, remember the scents, including Jesus being gifted with Frankincense. But now, instead of using botanicals to create aromas, we have switched to synthetic, lab-made products and “natural” is now a relative term.

Janet Nudelman, senior director of Campaign for Safe Cosmetics for Breast Cancer Prevention Partners, says, “When we light a candle, apply makeup, spray perfume or use a laundry detergent that contains fragrances, endocrindisrupting chemicals (EDC) are released, thus facilitating hormonal disequilibrium. Depending on this timing of exposure, EDCs can contribute to early puberty, can cause reproductive or developmental harm, and can also increase breast cancer risk.”

A large body of data shows a high correlation between EDCs and miscarriages, preterm birth and developmental abnormalities, especially in fetal and adolescent development. The FDA and EPA are lagging way behind other countries, such as Canada, the European Union and Japan, in banning deadly chemicals.

These chemicals are everywhere. I bought a new humidifier last year. I’m allergic to scents and knew as soon as I removed the machine from the box, I could smell a strong odor. I left it out in the garage, near an open window all summer, but the smell never left and I knew I didn’t dare bring it into the house.

Be aware of anything you purchase that could be potentially harmful to your family. Today’s news reports one in nine children have ADHD.
