Valentine’s Day, other special occasion cards assure veterans they’re not forgotten
Dear editor, You often hear people say “don't forget” when speaking about historical military tragedies, but you don’t often see people take action to remember those who fought for our freedom and liberties, who are now in the stage of life where they reside in long-term care facilities. Our heroes deserve to have love and support throughout the year, especially during the holidays.
This past holiday season, Ms. Riehle’s kindergarten class at Maple Grove Charter School flew into action, making Christmas cards that were sent out to our veterans at the King, Union Grove and Chippewa Falls nursing homes. Ms. Riehle’s class will be getting ready to make cards for upcoming Valentines Day.
“I implore you to remember our heroes by taking action,” said veteran spouse/ caregiver and American Legion Auxiliary Unit 469 member Melanie Rodriguez.
Show your support throughout the year by sharing your love and gratitude simply by sending holiday cards to our veterans in nursing homes that may not have family or receive visitors or mail often. These cards help boost their quality of life by knowing the community has their back. This is a great way for our community to, at the very least, show appreciation for our veterans and bring happiness to their day.
Holiday cards can be mailed to the following addresses:
• Wisconsin Veterans Home at King N2665 County Rd. QQ King, WI 54946
• Wisconsin Veterans Home at Union Grove 21425 Spring St. Union Grove, WI 53182
• Wisconsin Veterans Home at Chippewa Falls 2175 E. Park Ave. Chippewa Falls, WI 54729
