Opening the conference play for the year, the Lake Holcombe girls basketball program hosted Winter Dec. 9, in what they knew would be a hard-fought game.
The Chieftains went after the basket agressively in the first half, taking a nine-point lead into halftime.
“We were very happy with our free throws the last couple of games, as well as the juniors and seniors working with the freshmen and sophmores,” said assistant coach J.D. Kirkman. “They’re a great bunch.”
Lake Holcombe was outscored, 33-31, in the second half, but still managed to sneak by the Warriors, 68-59.
Junior Emma Lechleitner had a massive night on the scoreboard, notching 37 points, and going 13 of 19 from the free throw stripe. Senior Karly Kirkman came next, with 15 points, making 9 of 14 free throws.
Seniors Justine Kane and Belle Jones each had 6 points, followed by sophomores Abby Jones and Chloe Lee, with 2 points each.
“It’s great watching our athletes progress every game,” said J.D. Kirkman. “We’re very proud of the effort they put out on the court every night. We also realize we have work to do.”
