Daniel Mark Ackeret, 66, passed away peacefully on Oct. 21, 2021, at his home in Freeport, Fla. after a courageous battle with cancer. In the months prior to his death, he was surrounded by Dara, his loving wife of 45 years, his children, extended family and many wonderful

friends. and caring father. He instilled in his children compassion for others, a solid work ethic and commitment. He was a motorcycle enthusiast and loved to travel on his motorcycle all over the country, especially in the mountains. Dan also enjoyed hunting and fishing and made numerous fishing trips to Canada with his family. In his spare time, Dan was in his garage collecting, repairing and restoring cars. He always found time to help family, friends, and neighbors with their car repairs, as well.

Dan is survived by his wife, Dara; his daughters Angela Guld, Wausau and Tia (Chris) Marascio, Freeport, Fla.; his son Michael, Freeport, Fla.; his grandchildren, Paige, Cooper, Jackson, Vann and Elijah; sisters, Pat Staeger of Tucson, Ariz., Joan (Dick) Netzer of Olympia, Wash., Kristie (Mike)Wandsneider of Defuniak Springs, Fla., Kathleen (Brian) Hurdis of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., Paula (Tim) Johnson of Oconto Falls, Maureen (Greg) Heier of Medford; brothers, Joel of Yakima, Wash., David of Centerville, Ark., Perry (Sandy) of Stevens Point, Steven of Wausau, Gregory (Barb) of Medford; and many nieces and nephews.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent and Kathryn; sisters, Judy Miskowic and Anne (Graham) Chant; and son-in-law, David Guld.

Above all, Dan will be remembered for his love of this country, his strong convictions, and his kindness, thoughtfulness, compassion, generosity and quick wit. He will be missed by all who were blessed to know him and be touched by him.

In lieu of flowers you may make donations to K9’s For Warriors (k9sforwarriors.org) or Wounded Warrior Project (support.woundedwarriorproject.org) A memorial service for Dan will take place at 12 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 30 at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, 1015 Pleasant Ridge Road, Defuniak Springs, Fla., 32425. A celebration of life gathering will be held following the memorial service at the home of Charlie Simmons, 1635 Chesser Road, Defuniak Springs, Fla. 32435.

Dan was born on Apr. 20, 1955 in Medford to Vincent and Kathryn Ackeret. Dan graduated from Medford Senior High School in 1973. He then joined the U.S. Army and served four years, with a majority of his time in Korea. While in the U.S. Army, Dan met his beautiful wife, Dara. They eventually made their home in Medford. Dan was employed by Kraft Corporation and retired after 30 years. For the last five years, Dan and Dara have been spending their retirement in Freeport, Fla.

Dan was very active in the Medford community. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and also a volunteer ambulance driver for the Medford Hospital. Dan adored his family and was a dedicated Paid Obituary 112336
