It’s unusual for the Cornell School District to have a special meeting, let alone one in the afternoon of a Friday, but time was pressing to hire a new administrative assistant. The school met partially in-person, partially virtually, to approve the hire Nov. 12.

Allison Ducommun, current administrative assistant, is moving into the bookkeeping position when Cheryl Geissler retires at the first of the year. There were nine applicants looking to fill Ducommun’s position, but one stood out above the others.

On recommendation from superintendent Paul Schley, Caitlin Larson received the job from the board. Since graduating from Cadott High School in 2018, Larson has worked at a few places and has some valuable experience, which will help her in the transition to administrative assistant.

While there was another strong candidate in the running, Schley said he was very impressed during Larson’s interview and felt she is a good fit for the district.

“She’s got her head on straight,” said Schley. Larson begins at the school Dec. 13, so Ducommun has time to train the new hire before winter break.
