Day-long events fill July 3 with community fun for all
Show your patriotic pride, with a full day of events in Cornell, Saturday, July 3. The celebration begins at 1:30 p.m., with a parade down Main Street, featuring the color guard, cars filled with the nation’s veterans, ATVs/UTVs, classic cars, decorated floats and riders on horseback.
And, of course, the kids will have a chance to collect candy from those walking or riding along the parade route.
“Find your spot on Main Street,” said coordinator Aimee Korger.
To sign up for the parade, contact Korger, at 715-456-7947.
After the parade passes by, stick around for a classic car show on Main Street, followed by a street dance that starts at 3 p.m., sponsored by the Cornell Area ATV Riders and local businesses. A brat stand run by the ATV club will be on hand to stave off hunger, as well as a food truck from Sam’s Place.
People can then dance the afternoon and night away, while listening to not one, but two, live bands on Main Street. Rockin’ Billy takes the stage from 4-8 p.m., followed by The Theory, who performs from 8-11:30 p.m.
In addition, there will be 50/50 raffles and kids games. One thing that is needed, are volunteers.
“We’d really like to see the community come out and enjoy themselves,” said street dance coordinator Sandy Schecklman.
If anyone would like to volunteer, Schecklman can be reached at 715-239-2099.
Fun is also on tap below Main Street, at Mill Yard Park, with the Cornell Lions Club serving chicken and popcorn, while cotton candy, popcorn, chips and glowsticks will be available at the Cornell Visitors Center. All that leads up to the annual fireworks display, beginning at 10 p.m.
All in all, the day has come together through the efforts of many community organizations and individuals, to bring a fun event to the city.
“That’s what it’s supposed to be – a community event,” said Schecklman.
