Vouchers ready for seniors to use at farmers markets
The Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) of Chippewa County, has been notified that the Senior Farmers Market Voucher Program will be available this summer. Eligible persons can receive $25 in farmers market vouchers, with only one packet per qualifying household, per year.
These vouchers can be used to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables from local farmers markets, or road-side produce stands.
To be eligible, a Chippewa County resident must be 60 years of age or older (or a Native American 55 years of age or older); have gross income less than a household of one – $1,986 per month or $23,828 annually; household of two – $2,686 per month or $32,227 annually; or each additional household member, add $700 per month or $8,399 annually. Remember to add back in Medicare A, B, C or D premiums to Social Security income, to figure gross income.
Because of COVID-19, the way the ADRC distributes vouchers has changed. Vouchers will be now be available by mail.
Starting June 1, people can request an application for vouchers be mailed, by calling or emailing the ADRC, or by picking up an application for vouchers outside of Room 118 in the Chippewa County Courthouse People can also complete an application online at co.chippewa.wi.us/adrc.
At this time, the ADRC will not issue vouchers to proxy agents, as vouchers can be mailed directly to the recipient. Vouchers are limited and available on a first-come, firstserve basis only. First-come is defined as the receipt of a completed and signed application. If the ADRC is out of vouchers by the time they receive an application, the applicant will be contacted.
