Julie J. Voda


1960-2022 Julie J. Voda, 62, of Phillips, passed away suddenly on July 20, 2022, at the Aspirus Medford Hospital. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Julie was born on July 1, 1960, in Iron Mountain, Mich., to Fernley and Gertrude (Osieczonek) Gray. Julie attended Phillips High School, NTC (when it was NITC), Superior/Duluth School of Fashion (a few semesters), and Fox Valley Tech School for truck driving. Julie and her husband enjoyed travel and adventure such as living in Medford running the theater, over-the-road team trucking, and owning The Crystal Cafe. She also worked at NTC (Phillips), Blount, Inc, Taylor County Courthouse, and Marquip. Julie grew up in Iron Mountain, Mich., and moved to Phillips when she was a freshman in high school. She has lived in Phillips, Woodruff, Westboro, and Medford to name a few. Julie is survived by her sons, Jeremy (Jenny) and Justin (Amanda); grandchildren, Nicolas, Lyla, and Tessa; sister, Robyn (Charlie) Fromolz; nieces, Brenda (Gene Jr), Nicole (Josh); lifelong honorary sister, Bonnie Hilgart; and special friend, Dave Rhyner. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; and parents. Anyone that knew her would say she was one of the most kindhearted, upbeat, and lovable people you have ever met. 1957-2022 Kathy Barr, 65, of Westboro, passed away on July 26, 2022, at her home. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 4, 2022 at Trinity Lutheran Church, W5334 Dassow Ave., Medford with the Rev. Ralph Shorey officiating. Interment will be at a later date. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 4 at the church. Kathy was born on May 5, 1957, in Medford, to Richard and Kathleen (Metz) Rindt. She married Jeff Barr on July 29, 1988, in Whittlesey. He survives. Kathy graduated from Rib Lake High School in 1975. After high school, she attended the UW-Medford campus. Kathy worked at Weather Shield before finishing out her career at Taylor County Human Services, retiring in Jan. 2020 after 39 years. Kathy was best known for her kind heart and love of animals. She was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she sang in the choir. She loved lunching with friends and family, and will be forever remembered for her baked bars. Some would wonder if there was a God after all of the trials and tribulations with her health, but she herself was living proof there is a God because without a God, there would be no angels. Everyone that knew Kathy well would agree that she was one of God’s angels on earth. She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Jeff of Westboro; her mother, Kathleen Rindt of Medford; in-laws, Howard and Betty Barr of Colby; siblings Linda (Mark) Stibbe of Elko, Bob (Julie) Rindt of Antigo, Mike (Becky) Rindt of Merrill; sisters-in-law, Diane (Terry) Hanson of Colby, Brenda (Scott) Jeffers of Sussex; and many nieces and nephews. Ann Marie (Halopka) Gebauer

Ann Marie (Halopka) Gebauer


1928-2022 Ann Marie (Halopka) Gebauer, a city of Medford resident, passed peacefully into eternal life at the Rib Lake Health Services on Sunday, Jan. 9, 2022 at the age of 93, under the care of Hope Hospice. She was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-greatgrandmother and a friend to all who knew her. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 6 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Medford, with Pastor Daniel Iwinski officiating. Burial will take place at Medford Evergreen Cemetery II. Visitation will take place at Immanuel Lutheran Church on Saturday, Aug. 6 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Ann’s grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers. Ann was born on July 25, 1928 in the town of Browning, the daughter of Frank and Alma (Giese) Halopka. She attended Fairfield Grade School, Town of Browning, and was a 1946 graduate of Medford High School. Her marriage took place on Sept. 14, 1946 at Community Evangelical Lutheran Church in Medford to Norman L. Gebauer; he preceded her in death on Sept. 28, 2009. Ann and Norman lived most of their lives in the city of Medford. She was a very kind, loving, and nurturing wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She was a wonderful homemaker, cook, and baker. Her kitchen was always open to everyone and she always had her delicious chocolate chip cookies; nobody ever left hungry. She loved children, especially babies, as she cared for numerous children while the parents worked. In her early years of marriage she did a lot of sewing for the family. She enjoyed family and all the gatherings and playing cards. She was a member of the Ladies Group at Immanuel Church and worked at many funerals and weddings, helping to prepare meals. Ann is survived by her children, Nancy (Robert) Schesel of Thorp and William (Bonnie) Gebauer of Medford; son-in-law Douglas (Mickie) Grube; daughter- in-law Margaret (Steve Budzinski) Gebauer; grandchildren, Amy, Michael, and Matthew Grube, Todd and Tim Schesel, Sarah (Schesel) Hempleman, Earl, Eric, and Steve Gebauer, Summer (Gebauer) Burlingame, OraLee (Gebauer) Dittrich, and Seth Gebauer; 31 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-greatgrandchildren. Ann is further survived by many other family and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Norman, Ann is preceded in death by her daughter, Alana Grube on June 15, 1994; son, Lex Gebauer on May 20, 2007; granddaughter, Angela Grube on July 23, 1977; great-grandson Sam Gebauer on Feb. 5, 2013; siblings, Alma Fiebke, Shirley Kleist, and Lydia, Frank, Harry, Earl, Ray, and Gene Halopka. 1939-2022 Irene M. Dums, age 83, of Rib Lake, passed away on Saturday, July 16, 2022, at Aspirus Medford Hospital. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, July 30, 2022, at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Rib Lake. Rev. Patrick McConnell will officiate. The family will receive friends for visitation from 9 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at the St. Ann Cemetery. Memorials are appreciated to Historic St. Ann’s, Inc. Irene was born in Chelsea, on May 25, 1939, to the late Rudolph and Evelyn (Olsen) Thums. She was married to James Dums on June 24, 1961; he passed away on June 17, 2007. Irene graduated from Highland School in the Township of Greenwood and later entered the workforce holding jobs at Gem Products Shoe Factory of Rib Lake, Master Clean, and cutting boughs for La-Grander’s. She was involved in Highlanders 4-H and was a charter member and historian of Historic St. Ann’s, Inc. Irene enjoyed sewing quilts and potholders, gardening, bread making, and family history. Survivors include her children, Martin Dums, Randall (Lisa) Dums, Bonnie (Joe) Schmidtfranz, and Paul (Chryllyn) Dums; her brother, Gerald (Laura) Thums; and her brother-in-law, Anthony Pogorzelski. She is further survived by her grandchildren, Jeremy, Sadie, Alex, Brody, Cory, Chris, Kurt, Kent, Karah, KC, Hannah, and Taylor; and her great-grandchildren, Adam, Lexi, Kip, Korbin, Kallen, Hank, Huck, Grey, Charlie, and Avelynn. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rudolph and Evelyn; her husband, James; infant son, Russell, and infant daughter, Laurie; her sister, Karen Pogorzelski; and her daughter-in-law, Debra Dums. 1934-2022 Kayo Dean Pope, 87, of Stetsonville, died Monday, July 18, 2022 at his home surrounded by family and while under the care of Hope Hospice. Friends and family are invited to attend a celebration of Kayo’s life from 1-4 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 14, 2022 at the Centennial Community Center in Stetsonville. Kayo was born Sept. 20, 1934 on the family farm in Stetsonville to Grant “Dick” and Viola (Roder) Pope. He attended Draper School and graduated from Dorchester High School in 1952. On June 11, 1964, he married Mona Metz at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Stetsonville. They lived, farmed and raised their children on the farmstead where Kayo grew up. Kayo loved to work on the farm, always creating and inventing new ways to improve his tools and equipment. He also enjoyed bowling, playing cards, watching sports and spending time with his beloved family. 1953-2022 Jean “Jeanie” Marie Lechmaier (nee Hanke), age 69, of Longwood, Fla., reached her heavenly home on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, while in VITAS hospice care at Orlando Lutheran Towers. A gathering and celebration of life will be held from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, July 30 at Baldwin- Fairchild Oaklawn Chapel in Sanford, Fla. A visitation will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 27 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Rib Lake. A funeral mass to follow at 12 p.m. Jeanie was the oldest born to Vernon and Estelle Hanke (nee Kriplean) on Apr. 5, 1953 in Sioux Falls, S.D. She grew up in Rib Lake and graduated from Rib Lake High School in 1971. On June 6, 1972 she was united in marriage to Daniel Lechmaier of Rib Lake. They moved to Milwaukee when Dan took a job with A.O. Smith. While her children were young, Jeanie was a stay-at-home mom and was active in Parent Teacher Association and Cub Scouts. In the late 1980s she became a certified optician and took a position with Paramount Optical. While working at Paramount Optical and delivering safety glasses to several local companies, she became affectionately known as the “Eyeglass Lady.” Upon her husband’s retirement from Tower Automotive (formerly A.O. Smith) in 2002, she moved back to Rib Lake. Jeanie became active in the TOPS Club chapter in Rib Lake and would later be crowned 2012 Queen at their national convention in San Diego, Calif. She worked at HealthView Eye Care Center in Medford, and retired in 2018. Following retirement, she and Dan moved to Longwood, Fla. Jeanie enjoyed reading, travel, baking, playing cards, walking, swimming, and playing with her grandchildren. Beloved wife of 50 years to Daniel C. Lechmaier; loving mother of Chris (Tricia) Lechmaier, Brad (Tanya) Lechmaier, and Eric Lechmaier; loving grandmother of eight grandchildren, Madelyn, Emilia, Ava, Keelan, Riley, Isla, Selah, and Chloe; sister to Sue (Barry) Anderson and the late Greg (Cindy) Hanke; and sister-in-law of Pat (the late Archie) House, Deb (the late Jim) Lechmaier, Ron (Phil) Lechmaier, Gene (Cathy) Lechmaier, Chuck (the late Charlene) Lechmaier, and John (Barb) Lechmaier.
