Warren Lawrence Honadel Jr. Warren Lawrence Honadel Jr., 39, Augusta, passed away surrounded by his loving family, Thursday evening, Oct. 31, 2019. He was treated at Mayo Clinic in Eau Claire, and transferred to St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minn., where he was diagnosed with “N.O.R.S.E.” After a courageous fight that lasted two weeks and two days, Warren was called home to be with his Lord. Warren was born Dec. 29, 1979, at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire, to Warren and Deloris (Kolpien) Honadel. He was raised on a dairy farm in the Ludington Township in Eau Claire County. Warren was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ludington, and graduated from Cadott High School in 1998. Following graduation, he attended Barron Community College and later, graduated from the CVTC’s lineman program. For several years, Warren was employed by Push Inc., of Rice Lake, followed by the Eau Claire County Highway Department and Stensen Excavation. Since December 2018, Warren was employed by the City of Augusta. He was united in marriage to Brittany Dickinsen Oct. 8, 2011, at Grace Lutheran Church in Augusta, where they were both members. Following their marriage, they settled into the Honadel family farm, where they began to build their lives together and had two sons. Following the passing of his father, Warren rekindled his interest in agriculture, and starting crop farming and a beef operation. Warren was an easy-going, supportive husband, who loved his wife and stood next to her during life’s journey. Friends and family will help remind them of a dad, who always had time and love for his boys, and couldn’t wait until they were old enough to hunt, fish and farm with him. Warren was also very close to his nieces and always made time for them. Warren always had something to do, a place to go or someone he wanted to talk with. Whenever out, he would run into a familiar face or strike up a conversation with someone new. His warm personality made it easy to befriend him. When he found time, he enjoyed playing basketball, hunting, fishing and spending time with his family, especially his wife and two little boys. He will be deeply missed by so many, especially his wife – Brittany, and their sons – Ty Lawrence, 2 1/2, and Coy Asher four months; mother – Deloris Honadel, Cadott; halfbrothers – David Markham (Julie Hitz), Cornell, and Brian Markham, Cadott; nephews – Jeffrey, Shane, Kayden, Brandon, Jordan and Jamie; godparents – Jerry and Lois Kolpien, Cadott; mother and father-in-law – Brent and Debbie Dickinsen, Augusta; sister-in-law – Lexi and Dennis Bergman, Augusta, and their daughters – Sophie and Hadley. A visitation will be held Friday, Nov. 8, from 3-8 p.m., at Grace Lutheran Church in Augusta, and from 1-2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 9, at the church, followed by the funeral services at 2 p.m., with Pastor Jonathan Wessel officiating. Elizabeth “Betty” Mae Pilgrim Shafer Elizabeth “Betty” Mae Pilgrim Shafer, 87, Chippewa Falls, peacefully made her journey to Heaven, from Cornell Health Services Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2019. Betty was born April 23, 1932, to John and Josephine (Krippendorf) Kavadas, in Freeport, Ill. She attended Augusta High School and obtained her LPN license from District One Technical Institute, Eau Claire. Betty was first and foremost a mom, grandma, greatgrandma and great-great-grandma. Her greatest joy was her children and grandchildren. She attended as many athletic and school events as she possibly could for all of them. She became a treasured hockey, motocross, soccer, basketball and track grandmother. She was proud of her Greek heritage, and displayed it with her gracious hospitality and ensuring everyone was well fed. Whenever you visited her, there was a counter full of good food and you never left her house without a to-go bag. Betty enjoyed playing BINGO, cribbage, cards, scratchoffs, in addition to cooking, baking, gardening, fishing and scuba diving, which also became a way for her to give back to others. She spoke fondly, and often, about the time she and Kenny found a woman’s wedding ring at the bottom of a lake. She took great pride in obtaining her LPN license, while also being a wife and a mother. She found her passion, caring and helping others as a nurse. The time she spent with her grandchildren was precious and cherished. Not only did she cook and bake them whatever they wanted to eat, they quickly learned to play cribbage for money. In the past few years, her great-great-granddaughter, Darlynn, was the light of her life. They had a very special connection. Betty will be truly missed; her love, wisdom and kindness will live on in all of our hearts. She will care and cook for others in heaven, and we hope they know how lucky they are to get her roast beef, omelets, peanut butter cookies and hamburger gravy. Love you more, mom!! Daniel “Dan” Duane Eichelt Daniel “Dan” Duane Eichelt, 82, formerly of Cornell, died peacefully at Suncoast Hospice in St. Petersburg, Fla., Thursday, Oct. 17, 2019. Dan was born Sept. 24, 1937, in Bismarck, N.D., to the late August and Ameila (Dutt) Eichelt. The family moved to Gilman, when he was a young boy. Daniel met Beverly “Bev” Helgerson and they were united in marriage Feb. 27, 1960, at the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua, Iowa. Dan and Bev owned, and operated, Eichelt’s Cafe and Dan’s Grocery Store in Cornell, for several years, until he began his career as a food service salesman for Indianhead Foodservice in Eau Claire. Dan worked as a foodservice salesman for over 30 years, retiring at the age of 62. He and Bev traveled around the United States, in their motorhome, and later made their home in Florida and Wisconsin. His memories will be left with his daughters – Becky (Todd) Felmlee, Cornell, and Dana (John Taluc) Eichelt, St. Petersburg, Fla., his son – Eric (Tonya) Eichelt, Balsam Lake; brothers – Herb (Janie) Eichelt and Jewel “Joe” Eichelt; sister – Elaine Kinson; sisters-in-law – Sandra Eichelt, Elsa Eichelt, Diane Helgerson and Shirley Helgerson; grandchildren – Lacey, Maddie, Danielle, Christopher, Jacob and Connor; and several great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Mark Thomas Schoonover Mark Thomas Schoonover, 65, passed away Monday, Oct. 28, 2019, surrounded by the love of his family, at his home on Island Lake. He died, after courageously battling cancer over the last several months. Mark was born in Eau Claire, Jan. 15, 1954, to Tom and Marilyn Schoonover. The family eventually landed in Cornell, which became home to Mark for the next 20 years. Upon graduation from Cornell High School in 1972, he sought employment at the Cornell Paper Mill. In the fall of 1974, Mark became a student at UW-Eau Claire and the following summer, he was accepted into AVROC, Naval Aviation Officer Candidate School at the Pensacola Naval Air Station. After graduating with a degree in geology and geography, Mark finished his training at Pensacola, Fla., and was commissioned an A-6 bombardier navigator. His next assignment was to be attached to VA-145 on the aircraft carrier USS Ranger, which was stationed at Whidbey Island, Wash. Mark’s Navy career gave him lasting friendships and incredible experiences that he was deeply proud of. By 1990, he had decided to retire from the Navy and begin a new career, working with his father at Hobbs Supply Company in Eau Claire. Mark and his father decided to take on a new adventure in 1992, and the Subway business began. He married Traci Zwiefelhofer Aug. 5, 2005, and together, they raised Abigail and have cherished their 14 years together. Abigail was the twinkle in Mark’s eye and he loved sharing his interests with his family. Along with flying, Mark loved the outdoors. He made many trips hunting grouse, as well as fishing in the remote Canadian wilderness. Mark was a generous, kind and thoughtful man, always willing to give his time and talent to his family, friends and community. Faith was a big part of Mark’s life and that was exemplified by his service to St. Paul’s Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife – Traci; his daughter – Abigail; his mother, Marilyn, Eau Claire; his sisters – Cheryl, Eau Claire, Jan (Ken) Sharp, and children Jenny, Sam and Chloe, Lakewood, Wash., Kris (Karen Kilsdonk), Hartland, and Wendy (Chuck) Kessler, and children Grace and Sophia, Edina, Minn.; his in-laws – Marion and James Zwiefelhofer, Bloomer; sister-in-law – Tammy (Steve) Niebling, and children Michael and Carter, Gilbert, Ariz.; and his brother-inlaw Tom (Michele Eberle) Zwiefelhofer, Chetek. Mark was preceded in death by his father – Tom Schoonover. Shirley Ann Vlach Shirley Ann Vlach, 81, formerly of Cadott, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2019, at the Chippewa Manor Assisted Living in Chippewa Falls. Shirley was born July 14, 1938, at home, in the township of Arthur, Chippewa County. She was the daughter of Robert and Helen (Fuchs) Vlach, and grew up in the area. She graduated from Cadott High School. Following graduation, Shirley worked with Bertha Thurn, working with handicapped children. Bertha introduced Shirley to many crafts to make and sell. One of Shirley’s joys came, when Bertha had a rug loom and brought it to her home, and taught Shirley to make woven rugs. How she loved making them; she probably made and sold more than 500. How proud she was. Shirley enjoyed many things in her life, putting puzzles together, playing cards, riding her bike, fishing with her dad, helping with the farm chores (at one time, there were 17 cats and kittens). How she loved them. She even drove the tractor at haying time and volunteered, helping others where needed. Shirley was an area news correspondent for the Courier Sentinel for over 30 years. Her trip to Alaska, in 2009, to visit her cousin, Bob Novotny and family, was an unbelievable dream. Shirley moved to the Chippewa Manor Assisted Living apartments in December 2015. She is survived by cousins and caregivers – Linda Dahm and Jim Dahm. She was preceded in death by her parents. Services were held at 4 p.m., Friday, Oct. 11, at the Chapel of the Resurrection-Chippewa Manor, with the Rev. George Olinske officiating. Interment was Saturday, Oct. 12, at 1:30 p.m., at the Bohemian National Cemetery in the Town of Arthur. Visitation was from 2:30 p.m., until the time of service, Friday, at the chapel. Robert “Bob” “Smokey” S. Lathrop Robert “Bob” “Smokey” S. Lathrop was born Aug. 23, 1927, and entered eternal life Thursday, Oct. 24, 2019. Bob was the son of Jess and Alma (Lehman) Lathrop. He was united in marriage to Bette I. Granger Aug. 20, 1955, in New London. Together, they ran the family farm, retiring in 1989. Bob was an employee of the New London Feed Mill for over 20 years. He was also an active member of the Hortonville Rural Fire Department for 23 years, and an AMPI director for five years. He started the Log Cabin Pioneers 4-H Club and was a 4-H leader in Outagamie County, for 15 years. He was elected vice president in 1966, and in 1967, president of the Outagamie County Leaders Association. Bob was an active bowler since he was 23, and was president of the Mixed Seniors Bowling League. He was a member and helper of a handicap group, Challenge the Outdoors, and also Fishing Has No Boundaries. He enjoyed watching the Packers, Brewers, Bucks, and supported New London Bulldogs and Lake Holcombe Chieftains sports. Bob also loved to play canasta with family and friends. He enjoyed cutting firewood and cut about 50 face cord, every year. He did a lot of woodworking, making cardinals, Wisconsin Badgers and Packers bird feeders. Bob mowed five to six lawns every summer; he always said, “I enjoy it. It’s better than sitting in the big chair and watching TV.” He plowed his long driveway every winter, and many of his neighbors’ driveways, too. He had a large garden every summer, and loved to can pickles and tomatoes. Bob spent the last two years, creating “Peter’s Park,” to memorialize his late son. He is survived by his daughter – Joy (Scott) Webster; sons – Mark (Melanie) and Terry (Tracy); daughter-in-law – Sue Lathrop; granddaughters – Jenny (Colin) Mitchell and Nikki (Levi) Allen, Kayla (Brett) Polczynski, and Molly and Morgan Webster; grandson – Brady Webster; great-grandchildren – Austin, Emma and Riley Allen; several nieces; nephews; other relatives and special friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two infant children – Dawn Christine and Dale Matthew; wife – Bette; sons – Kevin and Peter; brothers (twins) – Herbert and Harold, Kenneth and Melvin; and a sister – Francis. Services for Bob will be held Saturday, Nov. 2, at 11 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church in New London, with the Rev. Vicki Fink officiating. Visitation will be held Friday, Nov. 1, from 4-7 p.m., at Cline & Hanson Funeral Home, and also at the church, Saturday, from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
