Raymond “Ray” A. Weiss, 91, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2022, at Copperleaf Assisted Living, Marathon. He was born July 28, 1931, in the town of Bern, son of the late William Sr. and Louise (Johnas) Weiss. On June 6, 1992, he married Joanne (Zahn) Kinalu at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Marshfield. She preceded him in death on May 16, 2006. He married Virginia (Linder) Springer on May 14, 2016, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. She survives. Ray farmed the family farm until his retirement, then worked for Jerry Blinker and Dave Knotts in his later years. Among his favorite pastimes, he enjoyed camping, traveling, hunting, fishing, cooking at church functions and bus trips to the casino. Survivors include his wife, Virginia; five step-sons: David (Alice) Springer, Wausau, Daniel Springer, Marathon, Ernie (Mary) Springer, Marathon, Fred (Patty) Springer, Milwaukee and Jerry (Brenda) Springer, Wausau; 11 step-grandchildren; 13 step-great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends further survive. Besides his parents and first wife, Joanne, he was preceded in death by two brothers: Frank and William Jr.; and one step-daughter-in-law, Nancy Springer. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10, 2022, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Athens. Rev. George Graham will preside. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Athens. Frank T. Lemmer, 53, Marshfield, formerly of Edgar, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2022, at his home. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Frank was born on August 10, 1969, in Wausau, to Ralph Jr. and Adinun (Samaknarong) Lemmer. He graduated from Edgar High School in 1988. On July 18, 1992, he was united in marriage to Jennifer Miller. They later divorced. Frank enjoyed fishing, hunting, crafting, wood working, welding and working on cars. He is survived by his son, Cody Lemmer of Marathon, and daughter, Erica (Wyatt Allan) Lemmer of Hatley. He is further survived by his parents, Ralph Jr. and Adinun Lemmer, and brothers: Peter and Mike Lemmer. Donna Mae Austin, age 83, of Wisconsin Rapids, passed away early Monday, Nov. 21, 2022, at The Waterford at Wisconsin Rapids. Donna was born on March 16, 1939, in the Town of Marathon, to Elroy and Amanda (Hornung) Kurtzweil. A 1957 graduate of Marathon High School, Donna married John H. Austin on September 8, 1962, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Marathon. Donna was an active member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Wisconsin Rapids, volunteering many years for the annual church picnic and the fish fry. She worked as a cook in the kitchens of the Wisconsin Rapids School District for 25 years, retiring from Lincoln High School in 2007. She enjoyed playing cards and music, including Conway Twitty, Kenny Rogers and Neil Diamond. Donna is survived by her husband of 60 years, John; her children: James (Robyn) Austin and Sherry (Baird) Reffner; her grandchildren: Casey (fiancé Emily Boevers) Austin, Clayton (Becca Becker) Austin, Colin (Amy) Reffner and Carter (Mamie Redfearn) Austin; and great-grandchildren: Mya and Eli Reffner. She is further survived by her sister, Angie Martens, brothersin- law: Lyle Krautkramer and Richard Kienbaum, and sister-in-law, Elaine Kurtzweil Iattoni. Paid obituary 129012_2 Loren H. Venzke, 89, passed away October 26, 2022, at the Wausau Manor. He was born to Herman and Johana (Abitz) Venzke on January 12, 1933, on the family farm, Fence Road, Athens. He went to school through the eighth grade. His father had died when Loren was one year old, and his oldest siblings had left home, so he quit school to help his mother work the farm. He married Doris Remus in April of 1954. They purchased the farm from Loren’s mother and farmed together until they retired in 1999. He was a dedicated farmer who worked hard to provide for his family. He loved the Lord and was devoted to raising his family for the Lord. After Loren’s heart attack in September 2020, he lived his remaining two years at the Wausau Manor. Loren is survived by his three daughters: Sandra Stensgard of Eagan, Minn., Sherryl (Tom) Zillman of Janesville and Susan (Scott) McCumber of Honduras; seven grandchildren: Christopher (Nicole) Zillman, Jonathan Zillman, Lauren Zillman, Aaron Stensgard, Shauna (Ben) Mitchell, Samuel (Emma) McCumber and Seth (Melody) McCumber; and seven greatgrandchildren: Brayden, Sophia, Lyla, Benson, Saylor, Cadence and Theodore. Eileen M. Hoesly, 93, Edgar, passed away on Friday, Nov. 11, 2022, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. Eileen was a 1946 graduate of Stratford High School, then worked for Employers Mutual Insurance in Wausau until the time of their marriage. After raising their family, she became employed by Edgar Public Schools, serving as head cook from 1981 until 1991. She was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church, where for many years she sent birthday and anniversary cards to all the members. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, Sudoku, following Wisconsin sports teams, and was a member of the Edgar Women’s Club. Eileen was a devoted and loving wife, mother to her three children, and a very special Grandma/Gma to her seven grandchildren. She cherished them and loved to call them on a regular basis to see how their days went and to hear their voices. She always had cookies and grandma bars for when they stopped by. She will also be remembered for knowing family and friends’ special days like birthdays and anniversaries. She took pride in remembering these dates or by using her Birthday Book where she had the dates recorded. Instead of sending a card, she would give many of them a call on their special day. She is survived by her three children: Loralee (Jim) Mondl of St. Louis, Mo., Terry (Tammy) Hoesly and Tammy (Terry) Freese, all of Edgar. Gerald J. “Jerry” Carey, Jr., age 86, of Stratford, passed away in the evening hours of Friday, Oct. 28, 2022, at Wells Nature View in Marshfield under the care of St. Croix Hospice. The Fr. John Eisen Council 1799 Knights of Columbus will conduct a rosary service for their brother knight on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2022, at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Rozellville beginning at 8:30 a.m. Family and friends are invited to gather from 9 a.m. until time of services. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. with Rev. Sengole Vethanayagam presiding. Burial will follow in the Saint Andrew’s Cemetery with full military honors conducted by Stratford VFW Post 6352. David Carey and Alexander Thompson will be presenting the readings for the service. Gerald was born in Milwaukee on June 25, 1936, to Gerald and Helen (Kuri) Carey. He graduated from PIUS XI High School in Milwaukee and attended UWMadison majoring in poultry science. Gerald served his country as an Army Medic from 1958-1962. He went on to work at Quaker Oats research farm in Libertyville, Ill. On May 6, 1967, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Mae Temple in East Chain, Minn. Gerald attended Mankato State University where he obtained his teaching degree. He went on to teach science at Winston Park Junior High in Palatine, Ill., for thirty years until his retirement. He was a member of Saint Andrew’s Catholic Church in Rozellville, a member of the Knights of Columbus Fr. John Eisen Council 1799 of Marshfield and a member of the Stratford Historical Society for many years. Gerald enjoyed being a 4-H leader for over fifty years. In his retirement he enjoyed judging rabbits, poultry and vegetables at local fairs. He also enjoyed retirement on the farm in Stratford where he tended to his large garden. He was also known as one of the top breeders of world class Shetland Sheepdogs. He was a member of the Chicagoland Shetland Sheepdog Club for over fifty years and was one of the last remaining charter members. Survivors include his children: Tim (Laurel) Carey of Stratford and Lisa (Michael) Thompson of Stratford; his grandchildren: Steven Carey, David (Kerra) Carey, Joseph Carey, Alexander Thompson, Natalie Thompson and Kassidy Thompson; his sisters: Kathleen Walter of Waukesha and Luann Reed of New Berlin; his sister-in-law, Tracy Carey of Cape Coral, Fla.; his brothers-in-law, Paul (Mary) Temple of Post Falls, Idaho, and William (Patricia) Temple of Duluth, Minn., along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Leona Marie Schutt, daughter of Alexander and Hattie Wagner, was born in the town of Day, Marathon County, on August 20, 1936, and passed away on October 28, 2022, at Fairview Southdale hospital following complications from a heart attack. Leona was a graduate of Stratford High School. She received her teaching certificate and began her career in 1956. In 1959 Leona signed on to teach at Edgar High School. On her 1st day of teacher workshop, she met John Schutt. They were married in 1960 and were blessed with 4 sons. She enjoyed teaching for a number of years and went on to start her own day care which she continued throughout her working career. Leona devoted her life to helping children and others in need. Throughout her retirement years she continued to sew over 2,000 quilts and blankets and 3,000 plus bags for donation mainly to “Mission Mexico.” Leona was engaged in many social and community activities. She loved to host family events and entertain friends. Her hobbies were sewing, playing bridge with lady friends and couples card club. Leona and John were worldwide travelers and had many adventures together. She visited 49 of the 50 states, 47 countries and 6 of the 7 continents. She loved spending time with her grandchildren. They held an annual Christmas cookie bake since 1989, only missing 2020. Family life was very important to Leona as she loved and treasured time with each one. Leona was a devoted and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many. She leaves behind many who loved her and whose lives were enriched by knowing her. Leona is survived by her loving husband, John, and beloved sons: Mark (Linda), Steve (Sherry), Dan (Beth) and Mike and six very dear grandchildren: David, Michael, Jenny, Hayden, Sarah and Hannah; sisters: Dorothy Bernas and Rose (John) Herrmann; sisters-in-law: Karen Wagner and Adeline Wagner; brother-in-law, Tom Schutt (Barb), and many dear nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
