Paid obituary 129012_2 Loren H. Venzke, 89, passed away October 26, 2022, at the Wausau Manor. He was born to Herman and Johana (Abitz) Venzke on January 12, 1933, on the family farm, Fence Road, Athens. He went to school through the eighth grade. His father had died when Loren was one year old, and his oldest siblings had left home, so he quit school to help his mother work the farm. He married Doris Remus in April of 1954. They purchased the farm from Loren’s mother and farmed together until they retired in 1999. He was a dedicated farmer who worked hard to provide for his family. He loved the Lord and was devoted to raising his family for the Lord. After Loren’s heart attack in September 2020, he lived his remaining two years at the Wausau Manor. Loren is survived by his three daughters: Sandra Stensgard of Eagan, Minn., Sherryl (Tom) Zillman of Janesville and Susan (Scott) McCumber of Honduras; seven grandchildren: Christopher (Nicole) Zillman, Jonathan Zillman, Lauren Zillman, Aaron Stensgard, Shauna (Ben) Mitchell, Samuel (Emma) McCumber and Seth (Melody) McCumber; and seven greatgrandchildren: Brayden, Sophia, Lyla, Benson, Saylor, Cadence and Theodore. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris, his parents, and his siblings: Ernest, Freida, Alvin and Martin. Loren’s memorial service will be Saturday, Nov. 26, at Crossroads Assembly of God, 1930 County Road XX, Rothschild, WI. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. with the service following at 11 a.m. A special heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Wausau Manor for their kind and excellent care of our father and grandfather over the past two years.

Eileen M. Hoesly, 93, Edgar, passed away on Friday, Nov. 11, 2022, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2022, at Zion Lutheran Church, Stratford, where the visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time. Rev. Amy Heinzwill preside. Burial will take place in Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery located on State Highway 153, Stratford. The service will be streamed online at www.facebook.com/ rembsfuneralhomes. Sauter/Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family. Eileen was born on December 14, 1928, in Stratford, to Loren and Amanda (Viegut) Winistorfer. On October 24, 1964, she was united in marriage to Donald J. Hoesly at Zion Lutheran Church, Stratford. He passed away on June 27, 2014. Eileen was a 1946 graduate of Stratford High School, then worked for Employers Mutual Insurance in Wausau until the time of their marriage. After raising their family, she became employed by Edgar Public Schools, serving as head cook from 1981 until 1991. She was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church, where for many years she sent birthday and anniversary cards to all the members. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, Sudoku, following Wisconsin sports teams, and was a member of the Edgar Women’s Club. Eileen was a devoted and loving wife, mother to her three children, and a very special Grandma/Gma to her seven grandchildren. She cherished them and loved to call them on a regular basis to see how their days went and to hear their voices. She always had cookies and grandma bars for when they stopped by. She will also be remembered for knowing family and friends’ special days like birthdays and anniversaries. She took pride in remembering these dates or by using her Birthday Book where she had the dates recorded. Instead of sending a card, she would give many of them a call on their special day. She is survived by her three children: Loralee (Jim) Mondl of St. Louis, Mo., Terry (Tammy) Hoesly and Tammy (Terry) Freese, all of Edgar. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren: Brooke Freese, Alex Freese, Alayna Hoesly (fiancé – Brandon Johnson), Nick Mondl, Daria Hoesly, Cam Mondl and Malia Hoesly. She is further survived by a sister-in-law, Alvina Winistorfer, and a brother-in-law, Robert Aschenbrenner. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother, Lamar Winistorfer, and sisters: Marcia (Wilbur) Bolen, Imogene (Harold) Custer, Beverly Aschenbrenner and Charlene (Robert) Breu. Gerald J. “Jerry” Carey, Jr., age 86, of Stratford, passed away in the evening hours of Friday, Oct. 28, 2022, at Wells Nature View in Marshfield under the care of St. Croix Hospice. The Fr. John Eisen Council 1799 Knights of Columbus will conduct a rosary service for their brother knight on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2022, at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Rozellville beginning at 8:30 a.m. Family and friends are invited to gather from 9 a.m. until time of services. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. with Rev. Sengole Vethanayagam presiding. Burial will follow in the Saint Andrew’s Cemetery with full military honors conducted by Stratford VFW Post 6352. The honor of pallbearer belongs to his grandsons: Steven Carey, David Carey, Joseph Carey and Alexander Thompson, as well as his granddaughters, Natalie Thompson and Kassidy Thompson. David Carey and Alexander Thompson will be presenting the readings for the service. Gerald was born in Milwaukee on June 25, 1936, to Gerald and Helen (Kuri) Carey. He graduated from PIUS XI High School in Milwaukee and attended UWMadison majoring in poultry science. Gerald served his country as an Army Medic from 1958-1962. He went on to work at Quaker Oats research farm in Libertyville, Ill. On May 6, 1967, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Mae Temple in East Chain, Minn. Gerald attended Mankato State University where he obtained his teaching degree. He went on to teach science at Winston Park Junior High in Palatine, Ill., for thirty years until his retirement. He was a member of Saint Andrew’s Catholic Church in Rozellville, a member of the Knights of Columbus Fr. John Eisen Council 1799 of Marshfield and a member of the Stratford Historical Society for many years. Gerald enjoyed being a 4-H leader for over fifty years. In his retirement he enjoyed judging rabbits, poultry and vegetables at local fairs. He also enjoyed retirement on the farm in Stratford where he tended to his large garden. He was also known as one of the top breeders of world class Shetland Sheepdogs. He was a member of the Chicagoland Shetland Sheepdog Club for over fifty years and was one of the last remaining charter members. Survivors include his children: Tim (Laurel) Carey of Stratford and Lisa (Michael) Thompson of Stratford; his grandchildren: Steven Carey, David (Kerra) Carey, Joseph Carey, Alexander Thompson, Natalie Thompson and Kassidy Thompson; his sisters: Kathleen Walter of Waukesha and Luann Reed of New Berlin; his sister-in-law, Tracy Carey of Cape Coral, Fla.; his brothers-in-law, Paul (Mary) Temple of Post Falls, Idaho, and William (Patricia) Temple of Duluth, Minn., along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Helen; his wife, Dorothy; a son, Scott in 1991; a daughter in infancy in 1969; brothers: Robert and James Carey, and his brothers-in-law: Kenneth Walter, Sr. and David Reed. If desired, memorials in Gerald’s name are being accepted by his family for a charity to be determined. Leona Schutt

Leona Schutt


Leona Marie Schutt, daughter of Alexander and Hattie Wagner, was born in the town of Day, Marathon County, on August 20, 1936, and passed away on October 28, 2022, at Fairview Southdale hospital following complications from a heart attack. Leona was a graduate of Stratford High School. She received her teaching certificate and began her career in 1956. In 1959 Leona signed on to teach at Edgar High School. On her 1st day of teacher workshop, she met John Schutt. They were married in 1960 and were blessed with 4 sons. She enjoyed teaching for a number of years and went on to start her own day care which she continued throughout her working career. Leona devoted her life to helping children and others in need. Throughout her retirement years she continued to sew over 2,000 quilts and blankets and 3,000 plus bags for donation mainly to “Mission Mexico.” Leona was engaged in many social and community activities. She loved to host family events and entertain friends. Her hobbies were sewing, playing bridge with lady friends and couples card club. Leona and John were worldwide travelers and had many adventures together. She visited 49 of the 50 states, 47 countries and 6 of the 7 continents. She loved spending time with her grandchildren. They held an annual Christmas cookie bake since 1989, only missing 2020. Family life was very important to Leona as she loved and treasured time with each one. Leona was a devoted and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many. She leaves behind many who loved her and whose lives were enriched by knowing her. Leona is survived by her loving husband, John, and beloved sons: Mark (Linda), Steve (Sherry), Dan (Beth) and Mike and six very dear grandchildren: David, Michael, Jenny, Hayden, Sarah and Hannah; sisters: Dorothy Bernas and Rose (John) Herrmann; sisters-in-law: Karen Wagner and Adeline Wagner; brother-in-law, Tom Schutt (Barb), and many dear nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Leona was preceded in death by her parents, her in-laws, Dorothy and Al Schutt, two brothers, Alois (Sonny) and Jerry Wagner and sister, Marian David. Mary Jane Furger, 81, Marathon, passed away Monday, Oct. 17, 2022, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. She was born April 14, 1941, in Marathon, daughter of the late Philip Knauf Sr. and Alexia (Gertschen) Knauf. At a young age, Mary Jane’s mother passed away and she was raised by her stepmother, Delores (Fischer) Knauf. On April 28, 1962, she married LaVerne Furger at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Marathon. Mary Jane graduated from Marathon High School in 1959. She was employed at Wausau Insurance on the high-risk underwriting business policies team until her retirement in 1996. She enjoyed spending time at the lake, fishing, playing cards, cooking, baking, picking berries, attending grandchildren’s events, and spending time with friends and family. Survivors include her husband, LaVerne Furger, Marathon, her two sons: James (Norma) Furger, Lodi and Robert (Connie) Furger, Marathon; five grandchildren: Jenna (Ryan) Larson, New Glarus, Larissa (Cory) Reinen, Cottage Grove, Sierra Furger, Madison, Zachary (Tara) Furger, Marathon and Kailey Furger, Wausau; two great-grandchildren: Adalyn and Owen Furger, Marathon; her siblings: Philip “Butch” Knauf Jr., James (Rose) Knauf and Tom Knauf, all of Marathon; brother-in-law, Gerry Klinger, Rhinelander, and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides Mary Jane’s parents and stepmother, she was preceded in death by her sister, Phyllis Klinger, and brother, Larry Knauf. Gerald “Jerry” J. Klimpke, 78, town of Johnson, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2022, at Colonial Health and Rehabilitation Center in Colby, under the care of St. Croix Hospice. He was born Nov. 24, 1943, in the town of Johnson, son of the late Walter and Lavina (Christenson) Klimpke. On September 2, 1967, he married Phyllis Ortman at Peace Lutheran Church, town of Frankfort. She survives. Jerry farmed in the town of Johnson his entire life. The two most important pastimes in his life were spending time with his family and farming his land. Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Phyllis; two children: Tina (James) Borter and William (Joy) Klimpke; five grandchildren: Jessica (Matt) Hein, Zach (Alexa) Borter, Skyler Geiger and Alex and Johnathon Klimpke; five great-grandchildren: Jacob, Emilie and Braxton Hein and James and Kirsten Geiger; step-great-grandson, Joxton Boushan; three siblings: Walter Jr. (Carol) Klimpke, Shirley (Clarence) Liss and Ruth Komarek; four sistersin- law: Donna Solchenbuger, Betty (David) Holbach, Martha Rodman and Barbara Ortman, and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Anna Klimpke; five brothers-in-law: Jack Ortman, James Ortman, Lester Solchenbuger, Gene Rodman and Donald Komarek; and one sister-in-law, Ramona Ortman. A funeral service will be at noon on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2022, at Peace Lutheran Church, town of Frankfort. Rev. Jeff Tarras will preside. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
