1928-2020 Lorraine A. Schmitt, 92, Medford, died on Wednesday, Nov. 18 at her residence in the City of Medford under the loving care of her family and Hope Hospice. Private family only graveside committal and VFW Auxiliary services were held for Lorraine at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery, Medford, with Father Patrick McConnell officiating. Family members served as pallbearers. Lorraine was born on Aug. 15, 1928 in the Township of Holway, the daughter of Edward J. and Lois R. (Taylor) Millikin. She attended Stetsonville elementary schools and was a graduate of Medford High School. Her marriage took place on Sept. 15, 1947 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Medford, to Isadore “Stubby” L. Schmitt and he preceded her in death, Jan. 24, 2010. She waitressed at Club 13, Black Bear Restaurant and Phil & Eleanor’s. She also was a cooking instructor for the 4-H, quilting instructor for Northcentral Technical College and worked as a cashier at the Medford IGA. She also did home daycare having served 111 children over the years. She enjoyed quilting, knitting, sewing, cooking, baking, camping and canning. She donated quilted pillows to the Rusk County Wildlife Restoration Association. She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church of Medford and its Ladies of Holy Rosary and was active in the Medford VFW Auxiliary where she served as a local and district past chairman. Surviving are her children, David (Mary Ann) Schmitt of Hawkins, Joan (Robert) Mogensen of Sun City, Ariz., Michael (Cathy) Schmitt of Wausau, and Debra Chamberlain of Medford; grandchildren, Cory, Kimberly, Steven, Traci, Tonya, Misty, Amanda, Jessica, Jeremy and Cassandra, along with 10 greatgrandchildren. Also surviving are her siblings, Joyce Langteau of Seymour, Wayne “Butch” (Gerry) Faude of Boise, ID; and many nieces and nephews. 1927-2020 Arthur E. Boxrucker, 93, of Prairie du Chien, passed away Thursday, Nov. 19, 2020 at Great River Care Center in McGregor, Ia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, Nov. 25 at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Church of the Holy Family Parish with burial in the Calvary Cemetery, both in Prairie du Chien, Msgr. Charles Stoetzel officiating. Military honors will be accorded graveside by the Prairie du Chien Honor Guard. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of services. He was born Mar. 24, 1927 in Abbotsford, the son of John and Mary (Pueschner) Boxrucker. After his education, he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served as a Communication Technician Senior Chief. Working in cryptography, he had duty stations in Washington D.C., Japan, Hawaii, Australia, and Virginia. Arthur married Hannah Irene (Barb) Boxrucker on Oct. 25, 1950. Together they had 8 children and were married for 51 years until she preceded him in death on Dec. 5, 2001. He retired from the Navy after 30 years of service and began a second career as a dairy farmer on 210 acres outside of Prairie du Chien. He retired from farming in 1990, after 20 years. Arthur then married again to Celine Zirngibl of Stetsonville. They were married for 14 years and lived on the farm until moving to Great River Care Center in McGregor, Ia. Celine also preceded him in death on Mar. 31, 2017. Arthur enjoyed leatherworking, spending time in the woods clearing brush/cutting wood, playing cribbage and was an avid reader. He supported the ministry of Fr. Paul Fagen in Tanzania, Africa for many years. Arthur was also a hospice volunteer at the Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital and a member of the Holy Family Parish. He was affiliated with the US Navy Cryptography Association. He is survived by seven of his eight children, Bruce (Jeanette) Boxrucker, Gail (Andy) Howard, Paul (Lauri) Boxrucker, Kent Boxrucker, John (Jodi) Boxrucker, Monica (Dan) Schneider, and Scott Boxrucker; Luci Morrissey; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and numerous step-children and step-grandchildren. In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Helen Langteau; two brothers, Louis and Lawrence Boxrucker; his son, Mark Boxrucker; and his grandson, Kyle Boxrucker. cGrath 1942-2020 James “Jim” H. Mc-Grath, 78, of Sheboygan, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2020 at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice surrounded by his family. Private family services will take place at a later date. Born Sept. 22, 1942 in Ladysmith, James was the son of the late Clifford and Mildred Dodge McGrath. He grew up in Medford. In Jan. of 1961, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. In Aug. of 1983, he was united in marriage to Toni L. Cotant at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. Jim worked for the Kohler Company from 1966 until his retirement in 2004. He was a member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church where he sat in the balcony of the church every Sunday. He enjoyed cars and NASCAR and going to Iola every year with his friends. He loved spending time with his family and friends and his grandchildren were his pride and joy. He liked to travel and have dinner with his friends. He was always willing to help whenever he could and often donated to numerous charities. He is survived by his children, Alicia (Mitchel) Spaulding, Plymouth and their children, Devon Main, Preston and Levi Spaulding, and Rachelle Yang, Sheboygan; and her children, Isabelle Torres, Iverson, Xariah Yang and Xadian Yang; his sisters, Joyce (Mike) Malchow, Marcia (Bob) Grissman, and Susan (Jim) Olson; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Mal-Hui Fischer 1952-2020 Mal-Hui Fischer, 68, Medford, died on Sunday, Nov. 22 at her residence under the loving care of her family and Hope Hospice. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 27 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Medford, with Father Patrick McConnell officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m. that day. Due to COVID concerns, masks will be required for the visitation and funeral. Burial of her cremated remains will be in Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery, Medford. She was born on Jan. 8, 1952 in Jinhae, South Korea, the daughter of Ock Jin and Jae Soon (Choi) Kim. She attended South Korean schools. Her marriage took place on Jan. 10, 1985 at the US Embassy in Seoul, South Korea, to Steven Peter Fischer. After her education, she worked as a waitress at the Navy Chief’s Club in South Korea. After marriage they moved to the USA in 1986, returned to South Korea in 1990 and upon her husband’s retirement, they moved to Medford in 1994. She worked as a doughboy operator for Tombstone Pizza Corp. until her retirement. She enjoyed golfing, bowling, fishing, traveling and shaking dice. She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Medford, Our Ladies of Holy Rosary, Tee-Hi Golf Club, and the ladies bowling league. Surviving are her husband, Steven, of Medford; children, Peter Richard Fischer of Madison and Kimberly Ann Fischer of Appleton; her mother-in-law, Angeline Patton of Medford; siblings, Ae Hui (Jung Kwan Lee) Kim, Yang Hui Kim, and Shin Jip Kim, all of South Korea, and Shin (Nam Sook) Kim of Los Angeles, Calif. Harvey H olmes 1933-2020 Harvey Gene Holmes, age 87, of Medford, died peacefully with family by his side on Nov. 19, 2020 under the care of Hope Hospice and Palliative Care of Medford and Aspirus Care and Rehab Center, where he had resided for the past eleven weeks. Harvey chose to be cremated and the family will hold a celebration of life at a later date. Harvey was born Mar. 4, 1933 in Medford to Clyde and Bernice (Faude) Holmes. He attended Pine Tree Grade School, Town of Molitor, and Hannibal High School. He entered the U.S. Air Force Mar. 27, 1952 and served until 1956. He was stationed in Texas and overseas in Goose Bay, Labrador. Harvey married Bernice Gorichs in Waukegan, Ill., on July 23, 1957. After their marriage, the couple resided in Milwaukee where Harvey did building construction. They moved back to Medford in 1960 and Harvey did various factory jobs until going into the logging business in 1972 until his retirement. Harvey loved the outdoors by hunting, fishing, trapping, camping and kept a meticulous yard. Harvey is survived by his wife of 63 years, Bernice; children, Gene (Laura), Paul, Jeff (Lori) and Cindy, all of Medford; grandchildren, Christopher, Melissa, Chad (Liz), Brett, Cory (Chelsea) and Clayton; and eight great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his siblings, Shirley Poyda, Joan Gehrke, Ken, Gary and Clyde Holmes, all of Medford. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Bernice Holmes; brothers-in-law, Art Poyda and Glen Gehrke; and nephew, Tom Holmes. Jane L eischer 1947-2020 Jane T. Leischer, 73, Medford, died on Saturday, Nov. 21 at her residence under the loving care of her family and Hope Hospice. Funeral services for Jane will be at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 25 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Medford, with Father Patrick McConnell officiating. Visitation will be from noon until the time of services on Wednesday at the church. Interment will take place at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery, Medford, with her sons serving as pallbearers. Due to COVID concerns, masks will be required at the visitation and funeral services. Jane was born on Nov. 17, 1947 in Medford to Arthur F. and Lucille H. (Schwieso) Gelhaus. She attended Holy Rosary Catholic School, was a 1965 graduate of Medford High School and also was a graduate of the Sacred Heart School of Nursing, West Allis. Her marriage took place on May 25, 1968 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Medford, to Thomas Lee Leischer. After her education, she worked as a nurse at St. Luke’s Hospital in Milwaukee. In 1971 they returned to Medford to raise their family. She enjoyed gardening, baking, canning and spending time with her family. She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Medford, Our Ladies of Holy Rosary, Holy Rosary Prayer Chain and was very active in her church. Tom and Jane spent their lives together loving and serving as a couple and living their vows in Faith. She is survived by her husband, Tom; children, Timothy (Stephanie) Leischer of Merrill, Gregory (Tammy) Leischer of Wausau, Kristine (Scott) Guinter of Green Bay, Katie (Bob) Lisi of Duluth, Minn., Andrew (Tabitha) Leischer of Appleton and Matthew Leischer of Superior; grandchildren, William, Madeline, Kaitlyn, Megan, Benjamin, Kaden, Joshua, Jacob, Jenna, Jared, John Paul, Joseph, Jianna, Isaac, Maya, Noranna, Samuel, Owen, Henry, Isabella, Andrew, Sadie and Lucianna; great grandchildren, Jackson and Grace; siblings, Sally (Tony) Kovacik of Milwaukee, Carol (Roland Griffen) Gelhaus of South Carolina, Laura (Dennis) Zuleger of Medford, Susan (Lyle) Jones of Wausau, Peter (Jeanine) Gelhaus of Appleton, Charles (Linda) Gelhaus of Medford, Donna (Steve) Smitala of Schofield, Mark (Linda) Gelhaus of Caledonia and Bob (Rhonda) Gelhaus of Milwaukee.
