Taylor County is moving forward now to deal with a planned vacancy in the surveyor’s officer in September. County surveyor Bob Meyer came to the county’s land information committee on July 7 to alert them that land information specialist John Easterly has announced plans to retire in September after being with the county for 29 years. 1957-2022 Dave Mallien passed away peacefully at The Home Place of Dorchester under the care of Hope Hospice on July 4, 2022 Dave was born on Feb. 23, 1957. Survivors include his wife, Sharon; son, Jason; daugther, Brandi (Brent) Fuchs; two granddaughters, Kyanna and Kierra Mallien; brothers, Don (Jane) Mallien of Sturgeon Bay, Dan (Keri) of Madison, Jim (Rachel) of Sturgeon Bay; sisters, Debbie Mallien of Sturgeon Bay, Cherie Nye of Greenwood, Neb.; and stepmother, Helen Bahr of Sturgeon Bay. 1965-2022 Jeffry Carl Miller, age 57, of Medford passed away at his home on Tuesday, July 5, 2022. Jeff was born May 28, 1965. He attended Medford Area Schools, University of LaCrosse, University of Superior, and took enrichment courses throughout his life. Jeff was vice-president of sales at Woodland Marketing, 1991-2015. He was also key to operations at the Black River Art Gallery throughout his life, where he was well known and loved. Jeff is survived by his parents, Dick and Marilyn Miller, Medford; his life-partner, Kevin, Green Bay; brother, Mark (Mary) Miller, Stanley; sister, Beth (Mike) Baker, Medford; nieces, Casteele (Charlie) Thauwald, Carlye & Myranda Baker; nephews, Connor (fiancé, Crystal) Miller and Ty Baker; great niece, Calia Thauwald. Jeff’s two great loves: his family/friends and the Medford community. He did so very much for family and friends and contributed countless hours over his life, in leadership and volunteer positions with numerous community-based organizations. 1927-2022 Valerie C. McRoberts, 95, of Medford, passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at the Marshfield Medical Center. Cremation has been performed and the funeral was held on Wednesday, July 13, at Hemer-Pickerign Funeral Home in Medford. Visitation was at 10 a.m. and service at 11 a.m., followed by inurnment at Evergreen Cemetery II. Valeria Claire Nelson was born on June 14, 1927, to Julius and Alma Nelson at Johnson Creek, Wis. Her birth name was Valeria Claire, and she changed it at the time of her marriage on Aug. 14, 1948, to Kenneth E. McRoberts, at Johnson Creek. Together they had seven children and lived at Janesville, Eau Claire, Sun Prairie, and Medford. Valerie was a homemaker for most of her life, although she did attend additional classes and was Certified as a Nursing Assistant in the 80’s. Prior to her marriage she had worked at Parker Pen as a comptometrist, where Ken’s mother was a co-worker and introduced them at the time that dad was in the Navy and at sea. Her interests were cooking family dinners, competitive family games of Scrabble, sewing, embroidery, crossstitch and gardening. She and Ken had a motorhome and belonged to a Wisconsin Motorhome Club in their retirement. She and Ken were active when the kids were in Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. Also, she chaperoned many school trips and volunteered many hours at the schools. They belonged to the Methodist Church at each location. Mom was also a dedicated election official at each city. They tent camped when the kids were young, and traveled many places. She loved to spend time with family, and has had many good neighbors as friends throughout the years. Surviving are her children, Jeffrey Bruce (fiancée Brenda Rositzki Germain), New Richmond, Kenton Scott, Ogema; Quentin Jon (Lori), Lodi, Ellyn Bartelt (Ken Berg), Thorp, and Sarah Jayne Buehler, Rhinelander; sister, Faye Schilberg; and sister-in-law, Millie McRoberts, both of Janesville. Also survived by grandchildren, Geoffrey (Samantha) McRoberts, Jason (Stephanie) McRoberts, Justin (Sonia Quezada) McRoberts, Derek (Indira Ceylan) McRoberts, Eric (Lizzie) McRoberts, Danielle (Paul) Benesh, Kevin (Michelle) Bartelt, Riley Wells (Dylan Wells), Warren Bartelt, Rebecca (Andy) Yount, Bill (Chelsey Rae McPeak) Buehler, and Robert (Nathan Michielson) Buehler; as well as 24 great-grandchildren and one on the way. Valerie was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Ken, in 2015; daughter, Julie Ann, 2015; son, Martin Ross, 1994; her parents; and sisters, Virginia, Eileen, Marjorie, and Gloria; as well as a brother, Julius (Junior). CRASH REPORTS Joel Aaron Zeledon Valladares, 24, of Rib Lake, was traveling southbound on Evergreen Dr., on June 18, at 12:22 p.m., in the town of Rib Lake. Valladares’ vehicle hit the ditch on the east side of the road causing it to overturn multiple times. Valladares’ vehicle came to a complete stop, right side up, blocking the northbound lane. During the accident Valladares was ejected.
