1950-2023 Patricia “Patty” L. Strebig, age 73, of Medford, passed away on Friday, March 10, 2023, at her home under the care of her family and Hope Hospice & Palliative Care. A celebration of life gathering for Patricia Strebig will be held on Saturday, March 25, at the Rib Lake Ice Age Pavilion from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. Generations Funeral Home & Crematory of Tomahawk is assisting the family. Patty was born in Marshfield, on Feb. 4, 1950, to the late Raymond and Helen (Maslonka) Ziembo. She married Raymond Karl on Nov. 7, 1969; they later divorced. Patty then married Gerald Strebig on Feb. 18, 2000; he passed away in 2020. Patty grew up in Rib Lake, and was a graduate of the Rib Lake High School. After graduating, she entered the workforce starting employment at the Rib Lake Shoe Factory. Working in the hospitality industry for many years, Patty first owned and operated Patty’s Playhouse in Rib Lake beginning in 1990. She then moved to Green Lake, where she operated Pastimes Pub & Grille. Patty returned to Rib Lake where she worked at Camp 28 for some time before owning and operating Rib River Bar & Grill where she worked until her retirement in 2018. Patty was a proud supporter of the area communities, always eagerly contributing to various functions including cancer benefits and veterans fundraisers and volunteered her time as a member of the Rib Lake Ice Age Committee. She was a talented cook who loved socializing with friends and family and was always willing to share what she had on her mind. Survivors include her sons, Ray (Nancy) Duerr, of Rib Lake, Mike (Connie) Cyborowski, of Medford, and Bob (Molly) Duerr, of Eden Prairie, Minn.; her brothers, John (Joleen) Ziembo, of Rib Lake, Bob Ziembo, of Medford, and Mike (Linda) Ziembo, of Hayward; her sisters, Mary Ellen (Mike) Thums, of Rib Lake, Susan (Phil) Marthaler, of Athens, Barb (Rick) Berger, of Medford, Joann (Jim) Wilke, of Merrill, and Judy Ziembo, of Rib Lake; and her sister- in-law, Rhonda Ziembo, also of Rib Lake. 1930-2023 Robert R. “Bob” Storch, age 92, passed away Saturday, March 4, 2023. He was born on July 12, 1930 to Raymond and Gladys (Meschefske) Storch in Little Black. Bob was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and had been attending Trinity Lutheran Church. Prior to 1988, he worked as a teacher for Muskegon Public Schools - Oakview Elementary. Bob enjoyed woodworking, built his home and was an accomplished concertina player, even playing to his final days on earth. 1953-2023 Kerry L. Wilcox “Tripping Turkey”, 69, of Gilman, passed away in his home on Wednesday, March 8, 2023. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Gilman Funeral Home at 2 p.m. on March 25. Visitation will be one hour prior to services and reception to follow. He was born on Aug. 31, 1953 in Duluth, Minn. as the son of the late Kenneth and Pauline (Privett) Wilcox. Kerry spent much of his childhood being raised by his loving grandparents until his father and step-mother, Clarine Wilcox, moved their family to Wausau, when he was a young teen. He then graduated from Wausau West High in 1971 and was married to his former wife, Barb (Marone) Wilcox for 36 years. He owned Northland Wood Floors and worked as a volunteer First Responder/EMT for many years before attaining his nursing degree from NTC, all while helping raise his family on pancakes, undercooked rice dishes and a sense of humor. He worked in several facilities as a nurse, but had a special gift for working with the elderly. Kerry met his second love, Bernadette Peterson, and they “retired” to South Dakota. During that time, he started a successful leather business, Double T Leather, and eventually moved to Gilman in 2019 where he has lived since. They spent 11 happy years together before she passed. He developed many friendships while bartending at Grand Central Station Bar & Grill - Gilman. Kerry enjoyed fishing, kayaking and rocking on his back porch swing. He spent many years reenacting, telling stories to anyone with ears and creating beautiful items from various materials, particularly leather and woodwork. He played the mountain dulcimer and a mean radio. 1936-2023 Monica Cecilia Nelson, 86, of Medford, passed away Friday, March 10, 2023 at 10:09 p.m. at VitaCare Living of Medford while under the care of Hope Hospice. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 20 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford, with Fr. Jayanna Kanna officiating. Monica was born March 27, 1936 to Robert E. and Cecilia (Huntimer) Anthony. She grew up in La Crosse, and attended Blessed Sacrament Elementary School and graduated from Aquinas High School, class of 1954, and has a bachelor’s degree from Viterbo University. Monica joined the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration and taught in Catholic schools in Iowa and Wisconsin. In 1969, she took a different path and taught in schools south of La Crosse, then in Marshfield. On May 30, 1970, she married Ronald L. Nelson and moved to Rhinelander. Together they had several transfers due to Ron’s employment with the U.S. Forest Service, which brought them to Washburn, WI, Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., Tell City, Ind., Glidden, then to Medford in 1990. Survivors include her husband, Ronald Nelson of Medford; children, Patrick (Becky) Nelson of Galesville, Jonathan (Jenni) Nelson of Appleton, Sarah Nelson (Josh Heier) of Green Bay; grandchildren, Damian, Emma, Hannah, Sophia and Henry; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. 1946-2023 David Allen Goebel, 76, of Gilman, died peacefully in his home on Thursday, March 9, surrounded by love. A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 18, at Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church-Gilman with Father Vijay Kumar Madani officiating. Burial will follow in Meadowbrook Catholic Cemetery-Gilman. Visitation will be Friday from 4-8 p.m. at the Gilman Funeral Home with a 7:30 p.m. rosary and again on Saturday one hour prior to service at the church. Dave was born June 2, 1946 to the late Chet and Clara Goebel; the seventh of nine children. He grew up in Gilman, went to elementary school in Sunnyview and graduated from Gilman High School in 1964. He was united in marriage to Alexis Lencz Goebel on Oct. 23, 1965 at St. Peter and Paul’s Catholic Church in Gilman, and celebrated 57 years together. Dave, with the support of his wife Alexis, farmed, lived and raised eight children together; a first, second, and third crop. Dave loved his family, his faith, farming, the outdoors and sports. When Dave was not farming on his own land, he was often at a sibling’s or a friend’s farm helping them. Hunting season was always a big festivity with his family. Every November brought about love and good spirits. Dave’s family has often heard stories of his basketball and baseball days in high school. In his adult years, he played summer softball in leagues and weekend tournaments until he couldn’t anymore; and that was a long time. Dave was loved by many who enjoyed sharing and listening to stories. He made people feel very loved and that came through when giving the best hugs. Dave taught his children to be compassionate and to help others in times of need. He transferred a work ethic to all of his children through the idea of ‘Improvise, Adapt, and Overcome.’ Dave and Alexis shared the love of Cornucopia on Lake Superior to their children as it was a family vacation most summers. Dave’s children continued the tradition of camping in Cornucopia for the last 21 years with him present every year. Those are some of the best and most cherished times. 1947-2023 Wayne (Butch) Mudgett passed away March 9 at his home in Palm Harbor, Fla. with his loving wife, Diane by his side. Butch was born July 2, 1947, to the late Roland Mudgett and Josephine (Mudgett) Pink in Hannibal. Butch attended and graduated from Gilman High School and later received a degree from Wausau Technical Institute in computer programming. While in school he met Sandy (Sowinski), and they were married in 1969. Shortly thereafter, he was drafted to serve in the Vietnam war. Upon his return, he worked as a technical and managerial computer technician for the University of Minnesota and later Target. Although he worked in the cities, he spent many of his weekends around Gilman and purchased Miller Dam Resort in 1985. Butch had many hobbies with golfing, hunting, and fishing being among some of his favorites. He also loved to travel and explore places around the US. It was during his travels he found New Orleans to be one of his favorite places and would bring the culture and Cajun cuisine to his elaborate dinner parties and cookouts that he would often host for family and friends. In his retirement, Butch had adopted the snowbird lifestyle, spending most of the winters in Palm Harbor Florida and after the tragic passing of his wife Sandy, was lucky enough to find a second love and married Diane Gareri in 2016. 1932-2023 Geraldine A. “Gerry” Geiger, age 91, of Colby, formerly Dorchester, passed away with family by her side in the early morning hours of Thursday, March 9, 2023, at Colby Senior Care with care provided by St. Croix Hospice. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 22, at St. Louis Catholic Church in Dorchester with Rev. Timothy Oudenhoven officiating. She will be laid to rest in Dorchester Memorial Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to gather for a time of visitation at the church in Dorchester on Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and again on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services. A Rosary Service is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the church. The honor of pallbearer belongs to Mike Geiger, Matt Behnke, David Behnke and Andrew Geiger. Gerry was born on Jan. 19, 1932, in Taylor County to Lester and Marie (Ludwig) Beyer. She graduated from Medford High School. On Aug. 6, 1949, she was united in marriage to Norbert Geiger at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Stetsonville. She and Norbert owned and operated a dairy farm. Outside of operating the farm, Gerry was also employed at Meadow Farms, Mr. B’s Egg Plant, The Olde Saloon, McDonald’s and Clarkson’s Bar which was owned by her sister. She raised eight children and sewed the majority of the girls’ clothes. She was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church in Dorchester as well as a member of its PCCW. Gerry enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, playing cards and bowling. She loved to test her luck at the casino and spending time with her family. Those who will cherish her memory include her children, John (Elfriede) Geiger of Colorado Springs, Colo., James (Charlene) Geiger of Spencer, Steve Geiger of Owen, Kathleen (Dennis) Reynolds of Dorchester, Sandra (Dave) Behnke of Dorchester, Kurt (Jennifer) Geiger of Potter, and Pam (Kirk) Kalepp of Dorchester; 22 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and three great great-grandchildren. 1932-2023 Joanne P. Zank, age 90, passed away Thursday, Feb. 16, 2023, at Grancare Nursing Center.
