1931-2023 Philip Herbert Buehler, 92, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2023 at Colonial Nursing Home in Colby, after nearly a two year stay. A memorial service will be held at Hemer-Pickerign Funeral Home in Medford on Saturday August 12, 2023. Visitation starting at 10 a.m., followed by service at 11 a.m. Phil was born Jan. 17, 1931 at the family farm, east of Medford, of three generations to George and Dorothy (Zwingli) Buehler. Phil and wife, Elsie, dairy farmed until selling to their son, Chris and Echo Buehler, in 1983, relocating to their current residence on Apple Avenue, Medford. Phil continued in business as a partner in B & H Silage Service until retiring. Phil found the love of his life at a wedding dance in Chelsea in Nov. 1950. Phil and Elsie were married April 11, 1953, celebrating 70 years together this year. Phil is also survived by his wife, Elsie (Schwabe); his five children, Susan (Mike) Tanis, Larry (Rose) Buehler, Chris (Echo) Buehler, Karen (Mike) Johnson, Mary (Timothy) Hobl, all of Medford; and a brother Rex Buehler of Merrill. Preceding Phil’s death were siblings, Phyllis, Doris, Lillian, Jackie, Don, David; and sister-in-law, Adeline Buehler. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be grandsons, Dustin Hamlund, Samuel Buehler, Hunter Buehler, Jeremiah Johnson and Nicholas Hobl. 1995-2023 Matthew Ryan Hotchkiss, 28, of Medford, died Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2023 at Aspirus Hospital in Wausau. A memorial service will be held at 12 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 12 at New Life Apostolic Church, 824 Perkins St., Medford. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 12 p.m. Saturday at the church. Matthew was born April 21, 1995 in Medford to Arlene Hotchkiss. He graduated from Medford High School in 2013. Matthew was currently working at Phillips Medisize in Medford where he had been an employee for many years. He enjoyed gaming, listening to music and attending concerts, hanging out with friends, and spending time with his family and his cats, Tiny and Grace. He will be sadly missed by his mother, Arlene Hotchkiss (Roger Ewer and his family) of Medford; his grandmother, Dorris Hotchkiss of Owen; brothers, Brandon (girlfriend, Brandi) Scheueneman of Stetsonville, Brent (fiancée Kayla) Scheueneman of Owen; aunts, Patricia (Michael) Kreiner of Okla., Karen (Dale) Zimmerman of Antigo, Jean (Jayson) Marcott of Owen, Darrel Hotchkiss of Curtiss, Steven Hotchkiss of Owen; and many friends. Corliss V. Jensen

Corliss V. Jensen


1924-2023 Corliss V. Jensen, 98, of Medford, died Sunday, Aug. 6, 2023, at the Aspirus Medford Care and Rehab Center while under the care of hospice. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Aug. 19, 2023, at the Medford United Methodist Church. Visitation will take place from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. Corliss was born on Oct. 17, 1924, to Anna and Lee Jensen in Janesville, Wisconsin. He attended Dorchester High School and graduated valedictorian. He received a bachelor of Naval Science degree from Notre Dame University and received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business administration and law degree from the University of Wisconsin. He served active duty with the US Navy from 1943-1947 and Naval Reserve from 1947-1953. In addition to being a lawyer in Medford for almost 70 years, he served with the Wisconsin National Guard from 1953-1968, was active duty from 1961-1962, and was a retired lieutenant colonel in the US Army Reserve. He married Betty J. Johnson in Madison, in 1950. Together they raised two children in Medford. Betty passed away in 1994. He married Shirley Werner in 2008. Corliss was very active in the community, having served on many boards throughout his lifetime including the Lions, United Way and the Medford Development Foundation. He, along with others, was instrumental in the founding of Memorial Hospital of Taylor County. He was one of the original founders of Black River Country Club and served on their board of directors since 1969. He was also a long-term member of the United Methodist Church and was chairman of the building committee for the present church building on Allman Street. In 1997, Corliss received the Medford Chamber Lifetime award and in 2002 he was recognized by the Wisconsin Bar Association for 50 years of law practice. (He finally cleaned out his office at the law firm in 2021!) He was an active hunter, golfer, skier, outdoors enthusiast and enjoyed traveling both in the US and abroad. Corliss is survived by his wife, Shirley Werner; children, Brian Jensen (Medford) and Karey Jensen (Eden Prairie, Minn.); grandson Evan C. Jensen (Andover, Minn.); and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Verlin Jensen. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at the Aspirus Medford Care and Rehab Center and Aspirus Hospice. Mary Lou Eggebrecht

1930-2023 Mary Lou Eggebrecht, age 92, of Colby, passed away on Monday, July 24, 2023 at The Waterford under the care of St. Croix Hospice. A Visitation will take place from 1 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 3, 2023 at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford. Followed by A Celebration of Life Gathering at the Colby VFW starting at 3:30. Mary Lou was born on Oct. 6, 1930, the daughter of Elroy and Marie (Hughes) Spindler in Marshfield. Mary Lou graduated from Stratford High School and was a bookkeeper, cheesemaker and a homemaker. She was united in marriage to James Eggebrecht on May 10, 1952 and together they spent many years until his death in 2010. Mary Lou loved bowling, golfing and traveling. She would spend many winters in Florida and loved spending summers with her family and friends at their cottage on Squirrel Lake. She was an avid sports fan and attended all her children and grandchildren’s sporting events. She spent countless hours working for the US and World Cheese Contests, where she would tabulate scores for cheeses during the judging of cheeses. She received an award from her son in 2018 for this achievement. She also operated Welcome Dairy with her husband. She is survived by her loving children, Jerry (Tari) Eggebrecht of Lake Havasu, Ariz., Terry Eggebrecht of Minocqua, Lea (Rachel) Eggebrecht of Abbotsford, Claire Eggebrecht of Pittsville, and Karen (Dean) Rindfleisch of Stratford; daughter-in-law, Lynn Eggebrecht of Minocqua; grandchildren, Collin, Paige, Kendra, Matthew, Dustin, Adam, Sara, James, Mary, Amanda, Samuel, Bill, Dustin and Nick; great-grandchildren, Ulrich, Miriam, Sebastian, Leonard, Deegan, Kaisley, Nora, Isaac, Chloe, Elise, Ruby, Jack, Brody, Jude, Lauren and Avery; brother, Robert (Dorie) Spindler of Stratford; and sisters, Diane Kleba of Marshfield and Sandy (Ronnie) Gebelein of Stratford; a sister-in-law, Shirley Spindler of Marshfield; and a brother-in-law, Jim Frost of Mosinee Mary Lou was preceded in death by her husband, James Eggebrecht; her son, Brian Eggebrecht; her two brothers, Glenn Spindler and Gary Spindler; her sister, Katherine Frost; and her brother-in-law, Ray Kleba. Rita Marie Netzer

1940-2023 Rita Marie Netzer, age 83, of Medford, passed away Wednesday July 19, 2023 in her home surrounded by her family under the care of Hope Hospice & Palliative Care. Rita was born on Jan. 23, 1940 to Ernest and Helen Johnson. Weighing just 3 lbs., she was not expected to survive. Survive she did to become a strong, beautiful woman, wife of almost 50 years, mother of eight, grandmother of 21, and great-grandmother of 10. Rita’s education began at Hilltop School, a small, rural, one-room school which was also attended by her father and grandmother. She graduated from Dorchester High School in 1958, after which she attended St. Joseph’s School of Nursing for one year. She married Lawrence Netzer on Oct. 24, 1959 and were only separated by his death 7/22/2016. Rita and Larry lived for varying lengths of time in Coloma, Marshfield, Owen, Withee, and eventually made Medford, their permanent home in 1975. Rita’s work history included providing child care in Milwaukee, partner in their business, Netzer’s Locker Service, in Owen, 23 years at Tombstone Pizza and in 1990, they formed Hickory Nutz Sausage. Rita will forever be remembered for her fierce hugs, gardening, baking and cooking for as many people as possible. She loved to make lunches for the crew at Hickory Nutz, especially during the busiest times. It gave her great pleasure to interact with customers who frequented Hickory Nutz. She was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Her family was her world and her joy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence “Moe” Netzer; and her parents, Ernest and Helen Johnson. Survived by her children Lori (Mike Gleiforst) Colorado Springs, Colo., Patricia (Wayne) Denzine Holcombe, Dennis (Trish Ulrich), Angela (Brad) Isaacson, Timothy (Suzy), Jeffery (Magga), Bobbi (Dave) Breneman, and Curt, all of Medford. Grandchildren include Tony Netzer (Jacki Wilkins), Kevin (Sarah) Netzer, Alexis Anderson (Paul Spanbauer), Ryan Netzer, Justin Eckert (Annette Fuchs), Tyler Harvey, Brett House, Dillon Staples, Rieley Netzer, Ashley Hoffman, Gabrielle (Nick) Ramsdem, Lauren Sutor, Dalton Isaacson, LaTeasha Brost (Rachel Rank), Kaitlyn Netzer, Zachary Breneman, Bailee Netzer, Makayla Breneman, Tyler Bohn, Isla Netzer, and Jameson Netzer; great- grandchildren Preston, Quinn, Maya & Luca Netzer, Evan and Paige Wilkins, Ashton and Arabella Wehe, and Colton and Conner Spanbauer. Rita was the big sister of, Linda Mertens, Colorado Springs, Colo., William, Evansville , Ind., Mary Ann Trabandt, Colorado Springs, Colo., John (Kathi) Medford, Donald (Catherine) Ashland, Ore., and Ronald (Debbie) Batesville, Ind. James K. (Slim) Scott

James K. (Slim) Scott


1949-2023 James K. (Slim) Scott, age 73, of Medford passed away on July 20, 2023 at Cornell Health Services, Cornell. Jim was born on Sept. 10, 1949 in Stevens Point, to Raymond and Ruth Mary (Kelly) Scott. Jim grew up in Medford, and graduated from Medford High School. Jim attended North Central Technical Institute in Wausau and the University of Wisconsin extension in Medford. He became a career employee at Weather Shield Mfg., Inc. in its Millwork Division in Medford. Slim also started and ran his own commercial cleaning service, Dirt Fighters, which employed Medford area youth for many years. Jim had a passion for photography and was constantly seen with a camera around his neck. In his younger years, Slim was an avid curler at the Medford Curling Club. He was also known for his displays of Christmas memorabilia in storefronts in Medford and at the Marshfield Clinic. Jim was a generous person - happy to buy anyone a beer. Slim adored his nieces and nephews, giving them $1 coins whenever they’d visit. Jim had a gentle and comical nature, which will be missed. Jim is survived by his brothers, Michael, Patrick (Lydia), Terry, Dennis (Amy), Kevin (Mary); and his sister, Maureen; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Timothy. There will be a funeral mass for Jim at Holy Rosary Catholic Church with Father Patrick McConnell officiating on Aug. 4, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to Holy Rosary Church and School.
