Bette Dorava


1933-2021 Bette Mae (Russell) Dorava age 87, a 40 year resident of Skanawan Township passed away Sunday, Jan. 3, 2021 at Country Terrace in Tomahawk. The funeral service for Bette will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 9 at the Krueger Family Funeral Home. Reverend Jess Wakefield will officiate. Visitation will take place from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Burial will take place in Perkinstown Community Cemetery in Perkinstown. Bette was born Oct. 22, 1933 in Jump River to Edwin and Inga (Petersen) Russell. She married Elmer G. Dorava on Feb. 15, 1953. Together they owned a gas station and garage in Perkinstown until they moved to a small farm in Irma in 1960. Bette especially loved feeding birds, watching wildlife, picking wild berries, her vegetable garden and growing flowers. She was a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church in Merrill. Bette is survived by her five children, Sandra Prebeg of Sun Prairie, Cynthia (John) Schaffer of Tomahawk, Larry (Joyce) Dorava of Rhinelander, Joe (Anne) Dorava of Irma and Edwin Dorava of Represa, Calif.; and ten grandchildren, Melanie Dorava, Jason Dorava, Melissa McGinnis, Alexander Prebeg, Angela (Sam) Bourassa , Joshua Schaffer, Kelly (Kameron) Haugen, Jared (Hannah) Schaffer, Nikolas (Susana) Dorava, and Dylan Dorava. She also leaves behind seven great-grandchildren, Paris Haugen, Emily and Isaac Bourassa, Lucas, Kaitlyn and Jacob Messenlehner and Levi Dorava; two brothers, Ivan (Annette) Russell and Donald (Joan) Russell. 1935-2020 Mary L. Jennejohn, 85, of Lublin, passed away on Friday, Dec. 25, 2020 at Aspirus Hospice House in Wausau. Per Mary’s request, no services will be held. and wildlife that would come to her feeders. Anytime someone would visit, she had to walk them through the yard to all of her flower beds. She truly did have a green thumb and a heart of gold. Mary is survived by her husband, Harold, of Thorp; eight children, Juanita Jerome of Chippewa Falls, Peggy (Paul) Senn of Cadott, Charles Ewer (Lori Carrillo) of Marshfield, Pattie Klapatauskas of Hopkinsville, Ky., Ronald (Lisa) Ewer of Hopkinsville, Ky., Mary (Kevin) Eichelt of Lublin, Roger (Arlene) Ewer of Medford, Jennie Jennejohn of Lublin; 35 grandchildren; 63 great-grandchildren; 5 greatgreat- grandchildren; two daughters-in-law; LouAnn Ewer-Coulthurst of Marshfield and Theresa Ewer of Cadott; two brothers, George (Cheryl) Whittenberger of St. Francis, Minn. and Don (Donna) Whittenberger of Copperas Cove, Texas; one sister, Charlotte Gorsenger of Minneapolis, Minn.; sister-in-law, Verdella Whittenberger of Tomahawk; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends. Mary Lou Whittenberger was born on Sept. 19, 1935 in Ladysmith, the daughter of Charles L. and Opal L. (Stockberger) Whittenberger, Sr., where she was raised and received her education. Mary was united in marriage to George A. Ewer on Jan. 28, 1952 in Ladysmith. They resided in the Holcombe area until George’s death on Feb. 6, 1970. She then held various jobs to raise her children. Mary met Harold W. Jennejohn while working at A& P Enterprises and they were married on Dec. 22, 1973 in Neillsville. They resided south of Thorp for a few years and she was the Tupperware lady, before moving to Bella Vista, Ark. in 1981. Mary worked at Tyson Foods in Bentonville, Ark. and went back to school to earn her GED. After retiring from Tyson Foods, they moved to the Lublin area where they did upholstery work and enjoyed spending time together fishing. She was dedicated to taking care of her family. Dustin Michael Jensen

1992-2020 contagious smile, infectious laugh, and most importantly, his kindness. Dustin “Dusty” Michael Jensen, 28, of Medford passed away unexpectedly Thursday, Dec. 31, 2020. A private family only service for Dustin will be held, with a celebration of life planned for a future date post COVID. Dustin was born on September 25, 1992 in Marshfield to Kevin and Pamela (Axtman) Jensen. He attended Medford elementary schools and graduated from Medford Area Senior High School in 2011. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Graphic Design in 2017 from the University of Minnesota, Duluth. Upon graduating, Dustin began his career as a Project Engineer/Cost Estimator for WADAL Plastics, Inc. Most recently, he was promoted to Project Manager, taking on an additional leadership responsibility for the organization. During his childhood, Dustin enjoyed go-kart racing, concerts and music festivals, and gaming with his friends. He was incredibly creative, bright, and a talented artist. Dustin was gregarious and outgoing, and spending time with his friends and family was his passion. Dustin was the heart of family holidays and vacations. He loved music, singing and dancing, and eating a home cooked meal. He also had a knack for impressions, and if you spent any time with him, you’d inevitably spent a lot of time laughing. Dustin will always be remembered by his vibrant personality, He is survived by his mother, Pamela Jensen of Rib Lake; his father, Kevin Jensen (Renee Kauffman and children, Jake Kauth, and Jaedyn, Lexi, and Luke and Ossmann of Rib Lake); his brother, Eric Jensen of Wausau; his sister, Heather Axtman (Dwayne Toatley and children, Zara, Tahlia, Kai, and Shadi Toatley of Minneapolis); his sister, Tasha Jensen (Alex Nelson and their children, Ariana Jensen and Theo Nelson of Fergus Falls, Minn.); his maternal grandmother, Rose Heisler of Breckenridge, Minn.; his best friend, Marcus Ludwig of Medford; and his many aunts; uncles; cousins; and friends who all loved Dustin profoundly. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, James Axtman; paternal grandparents, George and Audrey Jensen; uncle, Jeff Jensen; and cousin, Amanda Sem. The family has designated the Medford Area Senior High School Music Department for memorial contributions. Dustin spent many years performing and traveling with the music department in high school. 1936-2021 Arlen L. Utke, 84, of Curtiss, passed away at the Clark County Rehab and Living Center in Owen on January 1, 2021. A private graveside service will be held in the spring at Pine Hill Cemetery in Curtiss. The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford is entrusted with the in the early 1960’s. While there Arlen was the architect and a carpenter. He owned and operated the business until his retirement. Arlen was a charter member of the Curtiss Lions Club, in which he helped to organize. He was a member of Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church and served on the church council. The church parish hall kitchen was designed and built by the Utke brothers. When the church was remodeled Arlen designed and built the pulpit, baptismal font, altar railing and altar table. He designed and drew plans for the new entrance addition on the church that is presently being constructed. He is survived by his wife, Jane; step-daughter, Rebecca Williams Johnson; grandchildren, Tyler Johnson, Hunter Johnson and Gunnar Johnson; sister-inlaw, Beverly Utke; and nephews, Mark and Todd Utke. 1943-2020 Annette M. Kostick, 77, of Thorp passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2020 at her home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 9 at Thorp Funeral Home, with Pastor Michael Larrabee officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home, on Saturday, from 10 a.m. until time of service. Sunset Homes for a short time, then moved back to Morgan Plaza. She had many interests, but especially enjoyed crafting, sewing, cooking and baking. Annette was a member of the Lublin Homemakers Club and was a former 4-H Project Leader of the Country Clan 4-H Club. She is survived by two children, Faye (Ken) Ryszkiewicz of New Lisbon, and Wayne (Marcia) Kostick of Lublin; three grandchildren, Monica Gean, Clayton Kostick, and Jacob Kostick; one great-grandson, Kyle Gean; her mother, Lucille Szemraj of Owen; one sister, Susan (David) Ertl of Medford; two brothers, Joseph (Judy) Szemraj, Jr. of Lublin and Charles “Chuckie” Szemraj of Thorp; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends. 1938-2020 Udo Karl Illmann, 82, Wausau, died Thursday, Dec. 24, 2020 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. A celebration of Udo’s life will take place at a later date. Udo was a loving and protective man who was incredibly proud of his German heritage and service in the Air Force. His family was very evidently his whole heart. He greatly enjoyed the peace and solitude of nature. Udo had a naturally inquisitive nature and ability to figure things out on his own. Even when a stroke impaired his mobility, he persisted in wanting to do as much as he could on his own. Udo is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Joan; children, Chrystal Misener and Mark Illmann; grandchildren, Dustin (Nicole) Misener, Jeffery (fiancé, Kristen) Misener, Melissa Misener, Alexander Illmann and Nicholas Illmann; great-grandchildren, Eden and Grayson Misener and extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his three brothers and two sisters. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for a future charitable donation in Udo’s memory. Following his graduation from high school, Udo honorably served his adopted country in the U.S. Air Force. He met and married the love of his life, Joan Guarascio, in 1964. The couple was blessed with two children, Chrystal and Mark. While living in Racine, Udo worked as a maintenance supervisor for SC Johnson Wax.
