A shutdown pitcher, one of Rib Lake’s most productive offensive players and a solid shortstop for a team that won the undisputed conference championship, junior Talon Scheithauer was named the 2025 Marawood North Player of the Year, highlighting a long list of awards for the Redmen.

Scheithauer earned his second straight unanimous spot on the All-North first team and is joined by his freshman brother Slade and junior catcher Ethan Cook on the 10-man squad.

Last week, Scheithauer added another award, making the honorable mention list for the Wisconsin Baseball Coaches Association’s 2025 All-North Central District team.

Senior first baseman Brady Heiser had a season that could have gotten him on the All-North first team in some seasons. He and junior Seth Borchardt filled spots on this year’s All-North second team. Senior second baseman Tyler Matyka and freshman leftfielder Lucas Cook got honorable mention.

The awards follow a second straight season where Rib Lake went 18-6 overall and 9-1 in Marawood North play. The nine straight North wins came after an opening 6-3 loss at Athens on April 15. Rib Lake wound up winning the North by a game over 8-2 Athens after sharing the 2024 title with Abbotsford-Colby. The Redmen went on to win their second straight WIAA Division 4 regional championship before falling 8-1 to Marawood South champion Edgar in a sectional semifinal played at Athens.

Rib Lake’s Dick Iverson, who finished his 42nd season as the program’s head coach, was named the 2025 Marawood North Coach of the Year, marking the 14th time he has won a Marawood top coach honor.

Four unearned runs were key in Athens beating Rib Lake and Talon Scheithauer in the conference opener, but North teams got next to nothing when Scheithauer pitched after that. He finished 5-1 in North games with a 0.61 earned run average. Opponents got just three earned runs against him in 34.1 innings pitched. He allowed 24 hits and just eight walks while striking out 52 batters.

In 10 league games, Scheithauer hit .357 with 10 runs batted in and scored 17 runs.

He struck out 12 batters, walked only one and allowed four hits in a 5-0 win over Abbotsford-Colby on May 9. He threw 6.1 innings that day. He struck out 10 in seven innings, walked one and scattered nine hits in a 5-1 win over Chequamegon on May 13. He struck out 11, walked three and allowed four hits in six innings in Rib Lake’s 10-0 win at Abbotsford-Colby on
