Want to pursue a healthy lifestyle? There’s a place here!

Take two people, who began working out in high school, add a passion for keeping active and helping others be healthy, mix in some marriage, add a business, and you have Lake Holcombe Tan and Fitness. Formerly known as Magic Salon, located along State Hwy. 27 in Holcombe, the fitness center is now under new ownership.
Reece “RJ” and Christine “Chrissy” Kinney got married in the fall of 2024, and the young couple has now jumped into being business owners.
“I got into lifting with my friends in high school, trying to get better for sports,” said RJ. “I’ve been lifting at Lake Holcombe Fitness since I was a sophomore in high school, back when it was Body Magic Gym, and always talked about how amazing it would be, to one day have my own gym.”
Chrissy also began lifting in high school and fell in love with the activity. Therefore, it only made sense to take over the gym, after former owner Dawn Brisky wanted to retire from running the fitness center and cutting hair.
The Kinneys took over the business June 1, and have made some changes. Since both have full-time jobs outside the establishment, Courtney Walthers is in charge of the front desk and tanning, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Thursday, while gym members have a 24/7 key fob access.
Some of the services the fitness portion of the business offers, are functional and senior fitness, as well as spinning class, with Greg Mitchell. Brittany Myren, a local physical therapist, offers yoga, pilates, strength training and post-partem core/pelvic floor retraining.
The Kinneys offer certain discounts for college and high school students, as well EMS personnel and veterans, and want to provide as much as possible, all in one place. That includes selling energy drinks at the center, protein bars and powders.
Whether you need a haircut or want to adopt a healthier lifestyle, there’s a place for you, at Lake Holcombe Tan and Fitness. The business not only offers typical gym services, but also classes, protein supplements and Rebellious Hair, an in-house salon.
“We would love to see the community pursue a healthier lifestyle, by working out, whether you’re a beginner or lifelong fitness fanatic,” said Chrissy.
As for the salon part of the business, Rebellious Hair is run by Jacci Myers, who offers shampoo and detox treatments, bridal styles, perms, colors, toners and brow care, pedicures and manicures, and more services. Her hours fluctuate during the week, so she can be reached at 715704-9643, for an appointment, but walk-ins are welcome. To purchase a gym membership or schedule tanning times, stop in and see Walthers, during front desk hours.
“Our motto is, ‘small town, big community,’ and hopefully, with everyone’s support, we can keep our local gym open and keep improving what we have to offer for our community,” said RJ. “I love my home town of Holcombe, and the fact that we have the opportunity to keep the local gym going, is a very big honor.”
