Hwy. X project about to begin Hwy. X project about to begin

If you’re planning on traveling on County Hwy. X east in Cadott, over the summer and early fall months...don’t. A road improvement project is planned, starting around the first of July and possibly ending sometime this fall.

The project was discussed, May 27, in an informational session, for those who live and own businesses along the route.

Once the project begins, from State Hwy. 27, to the Slowiak property, the road will be blocked off, except for local traffic, as the county is going to mill and overlay the road.

“So, that’s the main reason for the project, for the village to get their improvements done, prior to the repaving,” said Brian Chapman, with Cedar Corp. “The road is in bad shape…so, it is in need of replacement.”

Right now, the roadway is an existing 22 feet wide, with gravel shoulders an issue, as water comes down Spruce Street and washes the shoulder material into County Hwy. X. Through the project, the village is trying to eliminate drainage ditches for the residents.

“All culverts will be removed along that stretch, as part of the project,” said Chapman.

The road will be widened, with curb and gutter added, while the 4-inch metal water main, that has broken several times recently, will be replaced with an 8-inch plastic water main, running along the north side of the roadway.

“It’s undersize, so there’s reduced flow and capacity, and…you do have water quality issues,” said Chapman.

The existing sanitary sewer is on the south side of the road and is clay pipe, but will not be replaced, as it can be lined, as a cost-saving measure, while adding a couple manholes.

Chapman is unsure on when the county will begin their milling and overlay.

“It’s just going to be a coordination, between the county and our contractor,” he said.

The contractor will also coordinate garbage collection and postal distribution, as well as emergency services and any school bus drop-off/pick-up, with traffic rerouted on M D Street. However, Chapman said that the houses and businesses along that section will be accessible, except when pouring curb and gutter. In that case, residents will be unable to enter their driveway, but there will be a “gap” for businesses.

“Those barricades are always staggered, so you can get in and around,” said Chapman. “We’ll try like heck not to inconvenience you too much.”

Signs will be placed as far back as Boyd, warning travelers that the road will be impassable, with signs stationed around the area, as well as the aforementioned barricades.

“If we catch people driving through there, they are going to get penalized,” said Chapman.
