Fresh produce, food trucks, how’s that for a farm market?

Fresh produce, food trucks, how’s that for a farm market? Fresh produce, food trucks, how’s that for a farm market?

Tired of store-bought produce and meat, and not knowing where that food comes from? That’s OK, it’s almost time for the Stacker City Farmers Market, which is filled with local vendors, offering fresh meat, farm-raised eggs, fruits, vegetables, maple syrup, honey, fresh-baked bread and more.

Running from Tuesday, June 17 through Sept. 30, the market takes place 4-6 p.m., at Mill Yard Park in Cornell. Each vendor is allotted a picnic table or they can bring their own. Electric hook-up is available, but is limited.

No direct sales are allowed, only handmade, homegrown/ homeraised or homemade items. Oh yeah and did we mention it’s free to set up?

“We really listened to the community, those who had items to sell, how having a vendor fee cut into how much money they walked away with,” said co-coordinator Ginna Young. “So, we dropped the fee and participation has steadily grown.”

In addition, back by popular demand, is the punch card reward, in which a shopper can keep a punch card (available by request at the market) and each market, if they buy at least one item from one of the vendors, they get a punch. When the punch card is full, the shopper can then turn in the punch card to Judy Talbot (first booth by the pavilion entrance), who mans the markets and pick out any item of their choice, from any vendor of their choice, up to $10.

“It’s on us, as a thank you, for supporting our market,” said Young.

In addition, there will also be three Food Truck Frenzy events, as part of the market, July 1, Aug. 5 and Sept. 2, with extended hours of 3-7 p.m. Again, there’s no fee to set up, but shoppers should bring cash, as not everyone accepts other forms of payment.

“This was such a huge success last year, that we knew we had to bring it back and make it even bigger,” said Young. “We just really want to give the community some fun options for a quick meal or snack, while they check out what our regular vendors have to offer.”

To sign up for the market or Food Truck Frenzy, or for more information, contact Young, at 715-313-3713.

“We never can have too much produce and it’d be fun to see some really different stuff you’ve grown,” said Young.
