The February Lake Holcombe Board meeting was finally held Feb. 27, after weather forced the date to change. What didn’t change, was the work that district administrator Kurt Lindau, Community Learning Center director Kristine Hemenway and after-school academic adviser Diedra Wichtendahl have put in over the last couple months.

The trio have worked on a 21st Century After-School Grant application, in the hopes it will be approved to keep the after-school program up and going. If the grant is not awarded to the district, Lindau already has a backup plan in place, by using Fund 80.

“We’ll keep our fingers crossed,” said Lindau. Lindau also worked on an ESSER III Summer School Grant.

Additionally, he reported that since Lake Holcombe has had to use snow days, with all the severe weather, they will have to cancel the upcoming early release days (which were scheduled for professional development), to make up the time. Lindau says he hopes the weather will straighten out going forward, but it is Wisconsin, so anything can happen.

One thing that is certain, is that exterior painting of the cafeteria/gym/loading area is a must, so the board approved the project from Backwoods Finishes for $24,000, paid for with money from Fund 46.

They also approved the CESA services contract, with a cost of $131,927.

Members also approved the resignation of Jason Lehman, assistant football coach, who said he enjoyed working with the staff and players.

I hope I was able to impact them all, wrote Lehman. The board also accepted $57.66, from Eastbay Lodge, to the music department; $57.66, to the football program, from Eastbay Lodge; $5,000, from Cumberland Federal Bank, for special projects; $500, from CABA, to the archery program; $352, from the Holiday Shoppe, to 4K through fifth grade; and $1,632, from the Dennis & Jeanne Boisvert Family Endowment Fund through the Community Foundation of Chippewa County, for grades sixth through eight, for classroom needs.
