Are you Hooked on Lake Holcombe? If not, you will be, after the Fall Festival Saturday, Oct. 1, held at Staudacher Field, from 3:30-5 p.m. The free event features a live scarecrow competition, where one person on a team of four becomes a living scarecrow, three-legged races, wheelbarrow races, feed sack races, a kid’s fishing game, corn hole and a dunk tank, if weather permits.

In July, a fun run was held, after the Holcombe United Methodist Church came up with some new ways to bring the community together.

“We learned that Cookie (Greg Anderson) from Cookie’s Holcombe Inn…had done multiple marathons and had organized a fun run in Holcombe, in the 1990s,” said fall festival cooridinator Kate Rihn. “We met with Cookie and he used the name Hooked on Lake Holcombe for his fun runs. We loved the name, and with Cookie’s help and the name, we moved forward with the fun run last July…it was successful and we loved seeing the people from the community and beyond, come together and have a good time.”

Because of that success, the group decided to keep the name Hooked on Lake Holcombe and create an annual event for every season.

The proceeds of the Fall Festival event will go toward repair of the church’s parking lot, as emergency services use the parking lot for the helicopter and ambulance emergency transport. A pulled pork dinner will be available for purchase, with a silent auction and a bake sale.

“Hooked on Lake Holcombe is about bringing familyfriendly events to the community and if there’s a need for the community, we would like to help meet that need,” said Rihn.
