Ski and snowshoe event offers winter recreation

A new event is encouraging everyone to get outside and be active. Cook & Anderson Chiropractic, Cook Chiropractic and Whispering Pines Golf Course are teaming up to offer a cross country ski and snowshoe event, Saturday, Feb. 27, 10 a.m. through 1 p.m.

Ashley Anderson, Cook & Anderson Chiropractic, says the free event is family-friendly. Anderson says the two chiropractic offices are teaming up for their 2021 education, with January’s topic about getting back to the basics, including highlighting local businesses offering different options for exercising.

“All of our doctors have a passion for exercise and the outdoors, so I thought it would be fun to plan an event that encouraged others to get moving, also helping support and highlight, one of our local businesses and community partners,” said Anderson.

Todd Rykal, Whispering Pines, says they are opening groomed cross country skiing and snowshoeing trails this winter, that will be free and open for the public to use.

“We will have three trails, depending on the workout you would like to get,” said Rykal.

He says the trails, one, two and three miles long, respectively, wind through the 150-acre golf course. Rykal says they will update Whispering Pines’ website and social media site when there is enough snow to open the trails for the year.

When the trails open, Rykal says they can be accessed any time of the week or weekend, and will be clearly marked, with plenty of parking available.

There will also be a fire going outside, a raffle and a chance to try out the new golf simulator, during the event. There will be a limited number of snowshoes available to borrow on a first-come, first-serve basis.

“I think the event will be really successful and good for the community,” said Rykal.
