Virtual group proves strength in numbers

The Family Support Center is committed to providing survivors of sexual, physical, economic and emotional violence, with comprehensive, accessible services throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. One of the many ways advocates are encouraging survivors to receive services, is by joining a support group virtually.

Typically, the center facilitates a variety of support groups to people of all ages. However, COVID-19 has impacted the advocates’ ability to provide these support groups in person. By hosting a support group for survivors aged 18 and over, via Zoom, advocates can provide participants with much needed support, coping skills and education needed to heal from the trauma.

In May, advocates from the Family Support Center presented their first ever virtual support group, Strength in Numbers. Attendance exceeded expectations and survivors felt more equipped to continue processing their experiences, especially in such an unprecedented time.

Therefore, advocates will present the next session of Strength in Numbers meeting virtually every Monday, 3-4 p.m., through Aug. 17. If someone would benefit from the support of trained advocates and other survivors of abuse, feel free to reach out.

Join the group by emailing familysupport@fsccf.org anytime or calling 715.723.1138 during business hours. The caller will be connected to an advocate who will assist in registering.

Strength in Numbers does require emailed informed consent, access to Zoom video platform and internet capabilities.

All services provided by the Family Support Center are free and confidential.
