10 Years Ago – 2010

Smoking regulations are looked at within businesses at Cadott, as the village could expand on a recent Wisconsin smoking ban. Before making a decision, it’s recommended the village get input from tavern owners.

20 Years Ago – 2000

A commemorative stone is placed at the foot of the entrance to the Old Abe State Trail in Jim Falls. More than 100 contributor names are listed on the stone, after the trail was created from Cornell to Wissota.

30 Years Ago – 1990

Bob Wenzel, Cadott, shows off his skills with the Chippewa County Highway Department, as he dredges a culvert under County Hwy. CC near Holcombe. The blockage was caused by a dam built by beavers, resulting in flooding across the roadway.

40 Years Ago – 1980

Fundraising efforts for a trophy case at Lake Holcombe School, have reached the halfway mark, with another $1,500 to be raised. Bruce Geibel is already working on the display case.

50 Years Ago – 1970

According to W. Robert McNally, sales manager for Grain Hoist and Tower, Cadott will see expanded TV viewing options by September. New and taller towers are to be built, to boost signals, with more channels added.

60 Years Ago – 1960

Marky’s Market in Cornell, finishes a complete interior renovation, including installation of all new shelves, new freezer display units and an automatic checkout counter. Owner Hazel Simenson shows off the new look to customers who can again patronize the shop.

100 Years Ago – 1920

Charles Robert, Holcombe resident, will lend even more excitement to the annual community picnic, as the former lumberjack plans to ride Little Falls. It’s been some time since Robert attempted the feat at the dangerous spot, but says he has the old “ginger” from previous years.
